Re: need help getting the internet on laptop
You may need to register your router thru your cable company unless you already have..
so if you are wanting a wireless connection, then you will need your internet key to access it.. are you already connected with a desktop or are you just trying to get one pc connected? please clarify.. thanks..d

Seems you forgot everything.
1. You could try the default username : admin with password : admin or username : user with password : user
2. if those not working you can reset your ADSL modem to the factory reset by push the "reset to default button" in the back panel, this will bring your modem to the very first time condition. Use the method 1 to login.
There must be a small reset button on your router. Hold it down for 30 seconds. Release it. wait for one minute. Now unplug the power and plug it back in. Wait for 1 minute. Once you reset the router, it will come back to factory default settings. You will need to reconfigure the router form the start according to your Internet service provider.
Try resetting the modem for 30 seconds and make sure everything is plugged up correctly after doing so right click your internet connection in the lower right hand corner of you screen and click "repair" in xp and "diagnose and repair" in vista. Hope it helps!
if thats only the problem, try first to reset the router than to buy new one..right? i share with u this because its global crisis..jz a joke..by the way, try to reset the router within 30 seconds of pressing the reset botton backside of the router...theres a small hole..use a pin to reset that botton..and after that, you reconfigure your router..and hope everything is new..its seems to be factory reset...keep in touch...dude..
First of all check if the power light is blinking or solid. if it's blinking reset your router.
When your computer is directly connected to the router try checking the IP address by clicking start>run> type cmd then ok. then type ipconfig then hit enter. IP address should be something like 192.168.1.100. not 169.254.xx.xx. if it's the latter reset your router. use a ball point pen or a paper clip. the reset button is a small hole at the back. If the IP address is like the first one i've mentioned. log-in to your router.
launch browser (internet explorer or firefox)
type http://192.168.1.1 or whatever your default gateway is. go to the status tab and check if you are getting a WAN or internet IP address. if not you will see a "release" and "renew" button. hit release then renew. if you're still not getting anything. do a power cycle. turn everything off. connect everything the way they are supposed to be connected. turn on modem first then router then computer.
If everything fails the last options is a firmware update on the router.
You need to look on the back of your router and find the small reset button. Push it and everything should reconfigure. If not Go into your device manager and see if you can find something called a NIC card or Network Interface Card, or something called an Ethernet card, if those are not listed, it means your driver has been deleted somehow. You can go to the manufacturers website and download a new driver.
hold down the reset button behind the router for 10 seconds pull the power plug for another 10 seconds then plug it back in. Plug the ethernet cord directly to the computer/laptop from one of the router ports. On your internet explorer page type in 192.168.1.1 this will forward you to the router type admin on both boxes. Then check the settings on the security reset new password
Run a cat5 cable from the laptop to a cat5 port on the router, open internet explorer in the address window type http://192.168.1.1 or what ever the IP address of the router once you have accessed the router create your PPPOE internet connection, enter your Internet Service Provider's username and password. Once you have done this, disconnect the cat5 cable and connect wirelessly to the router from the laptop. If all this fails press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10-15 seconds this will reset the router to factory defaults. connect to the wireless router and create the PPPOE connection.
