My GE PTS25LHSARBB has developed a problem with holding temps

My GE PTS25LHSARBB has developed a problem in the past 2 weeks. It appears that at times the freezer and refrigerator temps do not hold the desired values. The unit will not respond even if the new settings are entered. The only way for the temps to be achieved is by unplugging the power cord, wait around one hour and replug the cord.Once this is accomplished, it works fine (until the next time).Any advise? Have you checked the evaporator coil for icing up,it sounds like after you unplug it it defrosts and the evaporator deices, this could be caused by dirty evaporator and condenser coils or warm air getting around door seals condensing on the evaporator coils and freezing and blocking cold air flow,if this is the case, then check defrost heater circuit for proper operation

GE PTS25LHSARBB doesn't hold temps.

Have no idea who may have responded to any of your previous posts.
The defrost heater is located behind the back wall of the freezer compartment. You will have to unload the freezer and remove the icemaker to get to it. It is located at the very bottom of the cooling coils (which are officially known as the evaporator). When you remove the back wall to reveal the evaporator, in a normally operating refrigerator, you would see a light even coating of frost if the refrigerator has been running for at least 20 minutes or more.

I have a GE profile refrigerator. Model# is PDS22sfsrss. I left the refrigerator door open overnight. The temp in refrigerator is showing 64 and the temp in freezer is -9. I shut the door 2 hours ago. It...

You need to "reboot" the computer--unplug, count to 30, replug. Wait about 15 moinutes to see if it comes back. Our brand new one did not come up to temp until after we did that several times. Tunrs out 1 week later we had a catastrophic failure of the temp mechanism--it read properly but everything was warm. (the door was not left open) Ruined some very expensive food (steak, lobster) we were getting ready to entertain.

When we re-booted several times it got back to temp. GE refused to send someone out because eventually, the computer got "unstupid" and came back to temp. (They said if it was holding temp they would charge me for a service call--the unit was BRAND NEWI) finally got them to come out because I said it was not holding temperature. The technician took out the original board--which by the way had clearly markde on it that it had failed at least once in the pre-ship test phase, and replaced it with a DIFFERENT part number. Why, my guess that the original computer had too many failures.

Fortunately we have an extended warranyt--which we got because of the ICEMAKER, not the temp control. Give me back my old Kenmore fridge! If anything looks amiss again, I am insisting that they come out and replace the board. My guess is that the boards are throw away items that they don't test for what what wrong. (either too costly or they don't know what they are doing)

Greetings bkbkbt,

Many times this behavior is an early indicator that your unit either needs freon or might have a compressor issue. I would advise contacting a repair person before this problem gets worse.

Thank you,

Dorothy
