This did not address the question of how to open the unit to get access to the fan.

  • krishoke Feb 03, 2010

I'm disappointed that the "experts" don't understand the question. Also referring me to the manual, (which has nothing in it regarding my question) makes me wonder if the "experts" bothered looking at the manual. Again... I need to find out how to open up the unit to get at the fan. There are no screws that are visible. The unit has to be taken apart for the fan to be removed. If there is a repair manual out there, that would give me an answer. All that is being sent to me is the owners manual that comes with the unit when new.

I found out there is access to the screws that hold it together. It is not factory sealed or held together by tabs. The access holes where covered with plastic plugs that was the same color as the unit so it was hard to detect. I drilled a small hole in each plug then placed a wood screw into it. Then I used a pliers to pull the plug out and reveal the screw holding the unit together.
Since I didn't receive a correct answer and found the answer myself I do not expect to be charged.

Hi, I looked this unit up and it showed no results for a fan blade replacement for this model. Even though there is one, there is no excess to remove or replace any parts other the the Heppa filter. It appears the unit is sealed and there is no excess to any of the parts by the consumer. I would say that if the blade is faulty that you may need to check into another unit. There are no screws it is all sealed.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Hi, since you were able to find that there were screws that were hidden, you were able to solve the problem your self. I assume you were also able to replace the blabe also, so I was of no help to you at all and I sincerely am sorry for not being of help to you.

Alot of manufactures build those as a conceiled unit basically meaning once they break or dont work just throw away if u can find away to get it apart then theirs the pain of finding something that will work. call the manufacture and see if u can get parts.

Blueaire 501 dust caked up on wires and fan,how do you take it apart to clean it?

Hi, I have had the same problem and have figured out how to open it.

To open your blueair air purifier, follow the steps below;
1. Get a phillips head screwdriver,
2. Open the unit and remove the air filters.
3. Use the phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that you can see.
4. After taking out the screws, remove the "galvanizedSwedish steel housing"
(cream coloured sides) of the purifier by lifting it upwards (i.e. from bottom to top of unit).
4. You will now have access to the interior of the purifier.
5. You can now take out the fan and clean it, or what ever part you are trying to clean. I used a Dyson HEPA vacuum cleaner.
6. To reassemble, reverse the instructions above to reassemble the purifier.

I cleaned my Flair air purifier, The motor turns on but not the fan even after lubricating the fan shaft and giving the fan blades a little push. Any suggestions on how to get this going?

The Flair is no longer manufactured nor serviced by EcoQuest, and the company is now Vollara. If what you're hearing is the fan motor (there is no other motor associated with this machine), it might mean that either it's totally seized up, or that the oil just has not penetrated deeply enough.
1) Turn the machine over and remove the large screw in the bottom. The chassis will then slide out (I assume you've already done this in order to reach the fan shaft.)
2) Firmly pull on the fan blades near the center in order to pull them free of the shaft.
3) Turn the chassis on its back, so the fan shaft points up. Drip a small amount of lightweight oil (sewing machine, hair clipper, 3-in-1) on the shaft and turn it manually to work the oil down the shaft. Continue doing this if you feel the shaft loosening up.
4) Set the chassis upright, tilt it forward, and drip a small amount of oil on the rear opening to the fan shaft. Continue manually turning the shaft and tilting the machine to work the oil in.
5) Replace the fan blades and turn on the machine, depressing the safety switch manually, to see if the fan will begin to turn.
If it won't turn, it might mean that the fan motor is entirely seized up. You may be able to find a local small appliance repair person who could replace that motor.
Your other option is to call Vollara customer service at 800-989-2299 and ask them to explain your options. Use #16618 if you need a dealer referral number.

HOW TO REMOVE FRONT CONTROL PANEL IN ECOQUEST AIR PURIFIER

behind the front panel fingerboard on each side there is a screw hidden. You have to very slightly and gently with a fine bladed knife pry up those left and right sides to expose the screw. Its a thin piece of plastic covering the screen. Be very careful because there are electronics imbedded in the fingerpad that you are prying up. Gently lift the sticky covering only enough to get to the screws. It can be done but be careful.

Fan blade barely rotates when turned on high.

there may be a problem with fan motor, but i believe your problem may be the rotory switch that controlls voltage to fan motor,to check this pull knobs off front ,then remove filter from back, there are 4 screws in bottom of case remove these, pull unit out carefully .there are 5 wires conected to unit ,two for fan 2 for on off switch,1 for ground just what wires go were, then disconnect wires from there posts, and pull unit out of box, find the two wires that go fan, snip wires that go to the circiut board leaving enough space to rewire after test get extention cord and snip off to make direct plug to fan to wall connect extention to the two wires from the fan motor and wire nut or tape so no short, pug extention cord into wall outlet if fan runs on a high rpm or max power, then your rotory switch is no good and you can install an external rotory switch on side of unit,if fan does not run any faster then your fan motor needs replaced, let me no if you need more help

I have an Oreck air purifier model (air 4000). The power light is on but the fan will not turn unless I put it on high speed and manually push the fan to give it a jump start for it to start running but...

I tried that solution and it did not work due to the worn bushing. I went on line to CSH incorporated and ordered #534 Open Ventilation Fan & Blower Duty motor. The motor is a ball bearing motor rather than bushing, and is an exact replacement for the Fasco motor on the original. The repair is easy and a cheap repair at cost of about $67 dollars for the motor plus shipping. The unit now works great again.

Unit hums slightly but fan doesn't turn. I cleaned dust out of unit but still no results.

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.

Fans not working

Yeah, I had this happen to one of mine, the motor bearing siezed. Even though mine had run out of warranty and I kludged a fix for it Oreck replaced it anyways after inspecting the unit.

Temporary kludges that worked: light machine oil on the motor bearing, flipping the motor over internally, turning the unit on its edge so that it rides on a 'fresh' part of the bearing, running the unit on 'high' while I was out of the house.

My Fan on My Flair purifier is not turning when I turn on the unit. Nervous about poking around in there don't want to break it, any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

To fix it..........there is one screw on the unit on the outside.........really long!.......remove that and the entire unit just slides out of the housing..........

The replacement fan motor can be purchased on ebay....ranging from $21.95 to $32.95...depending on the model Flair that you have...the most common one is the $29.95 replacement...

Really quite simple to remove and replace!!! and well worth it!

Hope this helps.

Fan Noise

Your fan motor probably needs additional maintenance, in the way of lubrication.

After removing the unit from power, access the Fan blade and spin with finger. If there is any resistance to note then the spindle running through 2 bearing surfaces needs lubrication.

See the other question/answer to fan removal - motor lube.

If you have any sort of humidity to contend with and have a FreshAir model F1 or earlier different type, they seem to have some corrosion problems after a period of a couple years.

It is just a function of the machine/job that necessitates such maintenance.
