Wireless card Can I use a external wireless card with the notebook or just a internal wireless card? I brought this computer on ebay the other day, just to have a extra computer around the house needless to say it did not come with any paperwork. It is loaded with Win XP. Thanks for your help!

I suggest use the built in if any to avoid expense but if theres no builtin wireless you can buy one.

Yes, you can.

Just disable the builtin one through device manager when you use it because it may conflict with the new one..

Wireless adapter not functioning-

Do the following :
  1. Turn Laptop off, then disconnect adapter and remove battery. Re assemble and restart.
  2. Try clicking the button activating the wireless card.
  3. Reinstall wireless card drivers, select drivers from Compaq Presario V6205NR Notebook PC
  4. If all that did not work, then the internal adapter is faulty. Buy an external wlan adapter:WLAN Adapter WL-167G-£12.90 new

Install extra memory and a wirelss card in a

The memory slot is most likely in the bottom of the laptop and its hold closed with 2 screws.

Some laptops have the other memory module under the keyboard, if the other memory module is not in the bottom of the laptop, you would have to unscrew the screws from the bottom of the laptop that are under the keyboard, those screws may be marked with K/B (meaning Keyboard screws)

Then you may have to remove the plastic cover from the top of the keyboard which is between the display and the keyboard, in most cases this is hold in place with just plastic clips, you can remove it with a small flat screwdriver starting at the display hinges and then working your way slowly to remove it completely, if it really resists alot, check for screws in the bottom and the nearby areas and unscrew them, we don't want to ruin it.

Then you should be able to unscrew the rest of the screws on the keyboard and take it up, and you should be able to get to the 2nd memory module.

About the wireless card, you can use a USB, a PC card or possibly a internal card if the laptop has room and a connector for it inside, I would recommend you go with either a USB stick or a PC CARD, take the laptop with you to a local shop to find out which one would be the best option for your laptop.

let me know if you need furhter assistance.

Presario V6110US wireless is inop

There are 2 ways you can work this.

- One of course is the External Wireless card you currently have
- Second, is to replace the internal card. Most laptops ahve a VERY easy to getat wireless card, and you can purchase the card on ebay for as low as 9 dollars plus shipping. Find what model laptop you have, and i'll even make a reccomenation, and show you how to access the wifi card.

Sony VAIO internal wireless driver causes computer to lock up

There is a possibility you have a faulty wireless card. I would go with a external PCMCIA wireless card. Don't forget to disable the internal wireless card in the BIOS.

HP dv1000 laptop and internal wireless modem

Although you have internal wireless, you are capable of attaching an external wireless device. For example, you could attached a D-Link WUA-1340 USB Wireless G adapter (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=477), or, if you have a PCI port, you can use a Linksys WPC300N Wireless-N Notebook adapter (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1144763513196&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=1319686869B07). Either device with any brand will work just like your internal wireless. In fact, because you chose to use an external device, you may get a better wireless signal. Because internal wireless devices are inside the computer, it is more difficult to received a signal than with an external device.

Acer notebook wireless just connects when near to the modem...

The connection between the laptop's internal wireless antenna and its wireless card may been disconnected. Best to take it in to a computer shop for fixing. If you want to fix it, open the PCI-E cover on the bottom of the laptop, then reconnect the antenna wire. If that doesn't work, get it serviced.

Wireless connection

Hi, what you will need is a PCMCIA wireless card or usb wireless stick, these can purchased pretty cheaply these days from the likes of ebay or your local computer shop should be able to sort you out. PCMCIA would be the one I would choose as these just slot into an empty bay and once installed, can be left there. Hope this helps, if not give me a shout and I'll see what else I can do. Si :)
