Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop: StartUpProblem=UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop --- StartUp Problem = Blue Screen = UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME (even in SafeMode) "STOP: 0x000000ED, statusCode=0xC0000006 (means WHAT????)" ...MSDN's'BugCheck' says the StatusCode="The status code from the file system that describes why it failed to mount the volume" ..but no other 'hints'
****how do i find out what it means??? ****

***....looks like the hardDrive (HD) is 'toast'!!???*** ....where do i go from here???*** ...is there some 'magic' way of resurecting the HD???*** ....if not, is there any way of recovering (any?) of the files so they can be moved to a new HD???*** [no backUp position available!!]

If the hard drive is toast, you are out of luck. Seagate offers recovery services for bad hard drives, but there are no guarantees on a failed drive. Have you tried repairing the windows o/s. If you use the original Windows Release disc, it will examine the disc drive and find the current operating system, based on your input, it will attempt to repair the O/S without you loosing your data. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL TO SELECT THE CORRECT OPTIONS.

If the windows O/S CD has problems with your hard drive, then the next step would be to talk to seagate.

This means that the hard disk drive has a problem. It could be an electronics failure or it could be a driver problem. Try to start the computer in SAFE mode by pressing the F8 at bootup. This will verify the hardware.

How to remove the unmountable boot volume 1525 dell inspirion be cuz i have the blue screen, try go to the safe mode but freeze after it shows all the hard drive data its a stand still


if you can boot normally i suggest going to filehippo.com or cnet and download a free disk partioner and it will remove the boot volume for you. under run, msconfig, there is a boot option select the boot mount you want that may fix it let me know

Best case is your os files corrupted, in that case you can try reinstalling your OS. If that does not work then there may be some hardware issue, it'll best if take it to support center.

Unmountable boot volume means your harddrive has gone out.You will have to get a new one and load your os again.Sorry:-(

OK simply your hard drive has failed... You need to get a new one, and install it, in the laptop after taking the old one out. Then you will have to install an Operating System. & Drivers all again. You could download all of that from the Net.

Blue screen unmountable boot volume error, I have tried to reboot with the CD windows XP and the F-12 and F-2 no success. I have tried to reboot in safe mode last configuration still no success.


Sounds like a bad hard drive. You can try using a live linux cd like Knoppix or Ubuntu

Ubuntu is easier for most.

That way you'll know whether it's the hard drive or another issue with the laptop.

Blue Screen of death.


You might try removing the Hard Drive from the machin and slaving it on your other machine. Then running a chkdsk in the command prompt or norton disk utilities. If either fails, backup your data on other machin and reinstall.

Believe it or not, this sounds like a memory problem. Anytime you see an error of a page fault in a non-paged area, teh first thing to look for is memory issues. Can you move the memory stick(s) around? Try that first. Microsoft does not handle memory errors in certain areas very well. Sometimes moving the physical sticks around can place the bad memory cell into a less critical area that can be handled better.
