Kinda hard to get to them screws on certain models ain't it? On certain model numbers th lid is held in place by plasic balls. To get the lid off you simply yank it off. Then you can get to those phillips screws holding the switch on. Give a model number to be sure

Well the model # you listed goes to a Whirlpool machine so here goes.. The screws that hold the control panel on are located at the rear bottom of the end caps for the console/control panel, not the screws at the top of the control panel..
Once you remove those screws the control panel should slide forward 1/2 inch or so the up, and flip right over backwards towards the wall.
Once that is flipped up you will see the lid switch located in the left front corner under that console. Remove the 5/16" ground screw from the green wire, lift the connector release and remove the wire from the switch. Then carefully depress the plastic tab to release the switch and it should more or less lift right out.. No need to disassemble the entire cabinet.
whirlpool #8318084 $15-20 buks depending on where u are..
best of luck, have fun,

OOpps, forgot to mention, that it seems easier to have the lid up slightly so it is not depressing the lever and holding the entire switch in place. A couple inches is fine, but more than enough for you to still reach the darn switch..
    good luck

I have a Maytag Dependable. Care washer, Model MTW5600tq2. Took the back off to Check lid switch. Fixed problem as it was two screws on the washer lid. When reassembling back to washer we cannot get brass...

Go to and enter MTW5600tq2. With luck, you will be presented with a list of common replacement parts and may be able to view a generic Maytag video showing disassembly.

Washer does not spin or drain. It fills with water to the selected level then it stops

This sounds like a faulty lid switch. The washer will do nothing if the lid is open. It is to prevent someone from reaching into the washer while it is washing and spinning. If it is a mechanical switch, you should heara "click" when the lid is opened and closed (almost closed is where it will click). There is a "stub" sticking out on the lid which will operate the switch. Make sure it is not broken off or otherwise too short to push on the switch. If it is a magnetic switch, you'll need to disassemble the unit to get access to it. We will need your make and model to be sure though.

Maytag top loading washer will not agitate

My rule of thumb: Take what you paid for the washer new and divide by number of years without repairs. That is your cost per year for the washer. If the repair will get you another year and is less than the number above do the repair. If you have done more than 2 major repairs in a year it is time to think new. eric

My washer won't turn on, I checked circuit breaker and plug. Model # MAV4758AWW

Below is information provided by They also provide repair parts, disassembly procedures and diagrams.

You may also find this to be of assistance;

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.
If your washer doesn't seem to work at all, check these:

No power
Lid switch
No power Check to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?

Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.

Need to replace Lid Switch for Maytag Atlantis 2002 Washer

Hello, I can help you.

Let me explain to you how the Maytag washer lid switch works.
The lid switch is located on the controls panel, and is activated by opening and closing the washer door. The purpose of the lid switch is to prevent the washer from working with the door open.

It is a safety device to prevent the user from sticking their hands inside of the washer while the washer is agitating or spinning.

When the washer lid switch stops working, the result could be that the washer won't wash, drain, spin and in some cases the washer will not work at all.

You will need a multimeter to check the internal contacts on the washer lid switch.

You will also need to use the wiring schematic to see what contact should be close when the lid switch supposed to be on.

You will need to remember that the Maytag washer lid switch is one of the first parts that you will need to check, when the washer don't want to start filling, agitating, draining or spinning.

Maytag Atlantis washer will not drain and spin unless you lift the lid

The cheaper thing to check first is is your lid bent? The lid switch is in the center of the lid. If it "droops" or has been bent, it shaft on the back of the lid cant hit the switch. Open the lid and apply pressure in the bottom, center of the lid. This usually corrects the problem without replacing the switch.
