My frigidaire AC starts cooling fine but stops blowing cold air after few minutes and it does not cool at all. I haved turned it off and re-started it and it does the same thing

The compressor is being prematurely turned off. That explains why the cooling stops after a few moments. Either the thermostat is responsible or the electronics working with the therm are responsible for the anomaly.

Freon level is fine because it does cool when compressor is running. U might also want to check the start/run capacitor. That sucker starts the motor and keeps it running after the start. If the run section goes bad the motor will usually stop after it starts.

Frigidaire AC window unit, model fam185r2a (18,500 BTU) only cools for a few minutes before it cycles off and just fan blows. Then a few min later cool air cycles back on. Is this a thermostat issue?

The window units normally have a sensor thats attached to the front of the indoor coil. This controls the thermostat. I usually pull this sensor away from the coil because it stops cooling before the room is cool. It is attached to the cold coil so it senses the coil temp, not the room temp. You can normally see it when you remove the air filter. Don't break it! It may be a wire or small copper tube

Could a bad thermostat be causing my air conditioner to pull too much voltage?

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you want to know if a bad thermostat could be causing your Frigidaire air conditioner, model# FAH106N1, to be pulling too much voltage. There could be a possibility that a bad thermostat would cause your appliance to pull too much voltage. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They have been trained on your particular appliance, and should be able diagnose your air conditioner, and determine why it is pulling too much voltage. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

The ON/OFF switch is broke and stuck to the ON position. Does it cycle on and off for cooling with the thermostat? If yes, replace just the ON/OFF switch. If it is stuck on cooling 100 % of the time, replace the thermostat and the ON/OFF switch. The thermostat is a temperature controlled ON/OFF switch.

Fan does not come on

Possibly one of a two things. Either you need a new fan motor or you have a wire crossed in your thermostat. You do mean the fan at the unit not when you select fan only on the thermostat right?

I have a frigidaire window ac. THe compressor doesn't shut off. I have to unplug it for the compressor to stop. What could be the problem? Someone told me it could be the thermistor.

If it cools properly, it is not the thermistor. It most likely is the thermostat. Turn the knob to the warmest temperature and see if it shuts off. Still no? Then you can open up the control box. (DANGER--line voltage--can shock you) . Unplug the unit, open up the control box, take one of the wires(either one) off of the thermostat, tape it securely and isolated. If the compressor does not run now, then the thermostat is bad.

Central air conditioner does not come on.

You need to check to see if you have 230 volts to the L1 and L2 side of the contactor and 24 volts to the contactor coil. If you do then the contactor coil is open and needs replaced. If not you need to check the disconnect outside by the outdoor unit and the transformer or thermostat.

Thermostat position?

The thermostat control alows you to set it at whatever your desired room temperature is. It will keep the compressor on until it reaches your desired setting and then turn the compressor off.

Thermostat set to low.

If your A/C has a digital control panel no screw driver is necessary to reset the temperature.

The above URL will take you to the site to download the owners manual for your model number stated.
