    have the same problem and it keeps coming back - whilst turning it off and on again helps it doesn't solve it.

    Problem in the printing of Adobe Reader when the file is a network
    printer using Linux returned the error 900.43 - service rip software.

    I have the same problem, but with a Dell printer. Turning it off and back on, while disconnecting the network cable, does not fix it.

This is a problem you will see when you use the Postscricpt driver to print certain Adobe documents. Very common with Acrobat 7.

Go into Printing Preference, into the Other Options tab, then into More Options and then Postscript. Check the box next to "Disable Postscript Passthrough"

I've got a Dell 5210 that is doing the same thing.
In my case, the problem was being caused by PDF print jobs from one particular station.
We changed the PDF paper settings on that station, and it works like a charm.

But there are some other reasons this could happen.

When you print, try using 'print as image' option in Advanced, this is an Adobe only option.

Even switch it off then on again will work. Same with Dell as well

Disconnect network and power cables for a minute, connect them back, turn the printer back on.

a 900 rip error is the engine card. located behind the system board (formatter) if you can get the printer to a ready state you can phone 1800lexmark and get a pin code from them costs about 15 bucks. if this flash does not work you will likley need a new engine card.

Are there any memory or Barcode SIMM's in the printer? If so, remove them (power off first!) and turn the printer back on and see if it acts normally. I have had 1 instance where the Barcode SIMM has caused that error. The Barcode SIMM had to be replaced. Most other times the 900 RIP error occured, a simple turn off/on "fixed" it (sometimes only temporarily). If all that doesn't help, flash the engine code with the latest from Lexmark support. If that doesn't do it, then engine and/or controller card need replacing.

It means the RIP board is bad. It's under the left side cover. I think the board is around 100.00 and easy to replace. Steven 805-520-3003

If the 900 error occurs only when the printer is receiving information from a network or computer, contact your software/network support. If the error occurs when the printer is idle or not connected to the network or PC, there may be a printer hardware or connection problem. Sometimes a bad connection with an Internal Network Adapter/Network Card can cause the problem. The first thing to check is the base printer. To check the base printer:

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect every cable, except for the power cord.
  2. Turn on the printer and see if the error returns.
  3. If the error does not return, try to print a test page from the Test Menu.
    1. Press Menu > to enter Menus.
      Optra S series and Optra K series printers: Continue to press Menu > until you see TESTS MENU.
      Optra T and Lexmark T and W series printers: Continue to press Menu > until you see UTILITIES MENU.
    2. Press Select to view the menu items. TESTS/UTILITIES MENU is now on the first line of the display.
    3. Press the Menu > button until Print Menus appears on the second line.
    4. Press Select.
    5. If the display tells you to change paper, press Select or the GO button to print.
  4. If the test page prints correctly, the printer's hardware is most likely working correctly. The source of the problem is probably outside the base printer.
  5. If the 900 error occurs again before, during, or after the printing of the test page, remove all options (internal network adapters, optional feeders, second drawer options, finisher options, additional memory, etc.) from the printer.
  6. Then turn on the printer and try to print the test page. If it still posts the 900 error, the printer may need to be serviced.
  7. If the error does not return, then the problem may be with one of the options.
IMPORTANT: If you receive an Invalid Engine Code error message when you power the printer back on, there is a problem with the printer. An Invalid Engine Code condition will cause a 900 RIP Software Error message to appear if you try to use the printer. The Invalid Engine Code error means either that your printer has lost its stored operating code for the engine board or that the printer's engine board has gone out.

That sounds like your wiper blade that cleans the drum between prints is showing some wear and not cleaning properly.

get the cables checked and replaced if still the same problem.the software which you are loading from internet are missing some files
the orignal software from xerox is required.

are these printers hooked to surge protectors? 900 rip error is a software communications error and can be caused by any pcb in the printer. any surge, lightning strike,ect can cause the nvram chips to have problems these errors can be intermitten or continuious depending on the damge to the nvram. have you tried isolating any of these to see if it still has the problem off the network?

removed memory off the system board restarted printer. came up to an error no memory found.
powered down and reinstalled memory on board in a different slot and restarted unit...
NO ERRORS......

I rebooted with the network cable out.. Once up again I plugged it in and off it went.
