ERASE and RECORD fail to function. DVD machine shuts down and will not play, disk can be troublesome to get back!

Personally I think its the RAM disks as I have a really old DISK that I have never really used much - this disk still works fine. I wonder if the RAM disks have a fairly limited life of record and erase.

Hi, My Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD Recorder does not read my dvd-r disks any more though it used to, it will still read normal dvd-video disks ok, though occasionally does not read them either. Any ideas?

My panasonic DMR-E50 also does not read discs anymore. It has always been very sensitive but now, my 2 year old daughter touches all of her discs on the read surface which is probably dirtying the lense. I tried a cleaning disc but does not work. Perhaps I will open it up and clean with alcohol as the other poster suggested. I have always had problems with this machine but always got it to work before. Now I have some unfinalized home movies that are gone forever unless I can find a compatible recorder. Does anyone know of a modern recorder that will finalize the unfinished discs?

Most of the time, it is dirt on the lens of the laser. This can be very carefuly cleaned with a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip.

If cleaning the laser lens does not work, then the fault is more complicated. There are many areas of the DVD machine, and including the laser failing, that can cause no reads or writes. Servicing these can be complex and too expensive to be cost effective.

My Panasonic DMR-E50 wont read anything ....

hi there,
there could be a few reasons for this, but the most likely is that the laser has gone in it, ie... not reading any discs. it could also just be a loose cable or connector inside the recorder. the only way to know for sure is to open it up and see i'm afraid :( if its the laser, you will have to get it replaced i'm afraid. Hope this helps

Will my non finalzied discs play on a panasonic ez 28 or ex 768

You will have no problem playing your non finalized discs on any of the Panasonic DMR range including the DMR EZ28 series. The DMR E55 can also easily be repaired if you can use a soldering iron and a little care. Please checkout my other postings for full repair details.
Cheers...

Panasonic DVD problems

sorry to say but both of these sound like loader problems.ie the optics are faulty, you have to replace the full assy called a loader assy when this happens.Panasonic are the only company who offer part exchange tru authorised dealers.ie send back the faulty one and they will give reduced price on new one,.As to other makes see a lot of sonys with optic problems as well so isint just a panasonic problem. You could also try using ordinary dvdrs instead of ram discs as the optic has to work harder when recording and playing ram disc due to information contained.Hope I helped!
