Question about Gaggia Evolution Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Hi, Machine seems to drip a lot from the head when it's switched on a warming. I have changed the big round gasket and still no solution. Could it be the rubber valve behind the spring and nut in the head?

Yes it is the rubber valve behind the spring, at some time there might have been excessive pressure buildup, most likely because of a fine grind, and that might have moved the valve slightly, check it for damage, and clean the small hole that it fits into and you should be good to go, if there is no damage to it.

Take the head off and take it to a machine shop where they can check and adjust everything. cost is normally around 150 for the machine side and and get a upper gasket kit which includes the head gasket it's a lot better to do this than to just replace the head gasket and the plus side is you only have to take it apart once

It has a seeping head gasket! This is a common problem with all import engines. They are not designed to run hot! Even if they have a lot of miles on them, this problem always seem to follow. If you are familiar with running compression test on a engine, I highly suggest you run one on your engine. Run a compression test with it cold and after the engine is warmed up. If the compression is lower once the engine is warm, your head gasket is leaking compression, and its pulling oil from between the gasket into the cylinders causing the smoke. Or it can be a combination of a seeping head gasket and a bad oil seal on the turbo too as well....

it sounds like you need a new group head gasket, or the group head gasket is not installed properly.
If it is a new machine, you probably just need to reseat the group head gasket. If it is a used machine, the gasket is probably worn, they need replacement every 6-12 months.
The Starbucks Sirena is made by Saeco, and is also called the Saeco Sirena.
You can find the group head gasket (brew head gasket), and any other parts from the following:

Here are a few videos of the machine in use:

My pasquini livia machine is leaking from the base of the steam wand. Perhaps it is a gasket how do you replace these?

Hi,

You have to take apart the system for changing the gaskets. If you are not a technical savvy don't try for it.Here is the parts diagram for your machine. Many of my fixya customers took apart the system to change the valve and they suffered a lot to fix it again back. All the best.

I want to change the head gasket but cannot remove it.

Hi
Remove the water tank and drip tray. Then turn the machine upside down. That way you can see the gasket. Stick you allen wrench into the hole the screws were in and pry the center out. Now you can get a screw driver under the gasket and pry it out. It might come out in pieces but that is OK. They get hard and that is why they won't seal. They should be replaced once a year to work good.

I have a 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme overheating

If it's the water pump, you should be able to see it dripping just behind the pulley. The seal on the water pump is usually what goes. If there is antifreeze drips all over the front of the engine, and it drips a bit after you shut it off, it likely is the water pump.
If it runs poorly when you first start it in the morning, however, you could still have a head gasket problem. If that is the case, you will see a lot of white exhaust, which is the cylinder blowing the antifreeze out. One thing you can do is run it with the rad cap off, and see if it continues to bubble. If it does, then your head gasket is leaking. I am assuming it is a V6, so keep in mind that you have 2 head gaskets. The other oine could be gone now if it wasn't replaced.

Rancilio Silvia leaks around group head. Gasket seems fine.

HI
You need to change the group head gasket. They only last about 1 year and then should be changed. Get 2 because they usually fail on Friday and you have a party on Saturday.
The gaskets get hard from the heat and don't form to the filter any more so they leak.
When you get the new gasket.
Empty everything out of the machine (water tank, drip tray, etc.) Turn the machine upside down on a towel. This way you can see what your are doing.
Remove the filter screen and diffuser from the brew head. The black O-ring is your gasket. Carefully pry it out. Clean the opening good before you install the new gasket. Insert the gasket with the beveled side down (on the inside edge of the O-ring is the bevel). Once you have the gasket in place, use the portafilter to finish seating the gasket.
