Http://www.tedmontgomery.com/tutorial/altchrc.html <--- that link should come in very handy for many people who read this, you can work around holding shift then hitting the 3 key for get #, as you can see you hit Num Lock then Alt and 35 on the ten key pad at the right to get the same character, give it a try it's fun and useful. If Num Lock won't work then try Alt + 35 and see if that does the trick.
