Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My Whirlpool side by side is not functioning properly. The freezer temperature varies from zero to 50 degrees all on it's own. One day things stay frozen, they next they are thawed, etc. It's sporadic. This is on the coldest dial setting. The referigerator side varies from 30-40 degrees, (not sure if that is normal)?

Freeze temp is not holding zero

When the compressor shuts off the freezer temps will slowly go up until the compressor recycles. The temp will not stay at a constant zero but fluctuate back and forth in accordance with compressor function. My temps vary from -2 degrees to about +4 degrees when the compressor kicks on again.

Freezer is icing up we have already vacuumed the vents in teh front and the back of the refridge and it is still icing up

Hello, This is a common problem, the first thing to check is the overall internal refrigerator temperature. The proper temperature should be between 35-42 degrees. Here are some things to try:
  • If your refrigerator temperature is closer to 25 degree try turning the temperature up slightly.
  • If you find the temperature varies a lot from the top shelf to the bottom(where it is coldest) try putting produce or other sensitive product on a higher shelf
  • If the temperature is too low and you cant make it warmer by adjusting the thermostats, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so you need to replace it because they cannot be repaired. Other possible problems are a leak in the seal(refrigerant) system, cold air migration(in side by side models) or a defective air damper.
Thanks

New upright kenmore freezer temp varies +/- 10 degrees

Over what period of time did this variation occur?

The freezer should have an automatic defrost cycle. The temperature will rise while it is going through this cycle.

Whirlpool 6 sense model WSC5513- A+ X side by side, without ice or water dispenser. Refrigerator part not cooling properly. Temperature setting is -18 degrees Celsius for the freezer and 2 degrees...

The temp for the fridge is about right and -18 for the freezer is ok so check to see if the water filter is plugged, at 8 degrees Celsius is about 18 degrees fht. Which is freezing so the numbers don't add up. 26 degrees below zero on the freezer side is what you want if it that cold it could have frozen the water line.

Whirlpool refrig not cooling

is the fan in the freezer working when compressor is on? if not you need to replace it. do you have a large frost build up on the back wall of the freezer? if so you have a defrost problem, or back to the evaporator fan. If the fan is working you have a defrost problem which could mean a bad heater, timer, or bad defrost thermostat....

Greetings bkbkbt,

Many times this behavior is an early indicator that your unit either needs freon or might have a compressor issue. I would advise contacting a repair person before this problem gets worse.

Thank you,

Dorothy
