Hi. I have a faithfull old Laserjet 5L which I did not need to use for several years.
Now I want to use it the print comes out too light, just readable but not enough to use, if I set the print to BOLD it seems reasonable, and the top part of the test page prints OK but the smaller details are very light.
I have put a new Toner drum in and it made no difference. I am using Windows XP, Microsoft Word and Lotus Wordpro.
When I was using the printer before with my old computer it was probably running Windows 95 or 98.
Any help would be appreciated. email@example.com

The issue could either be in your general printer setup (adjust the scaling % in the printer options) or in the application you are printing (adjust the page setup scaling % or it may possibly have the option to print 1 page high x 1 page wide).
It's trying to say that the page you are trying to print is too complex. If you press the button to cintinue it may print out part of the page. Check the printer driver for print resolution settings. Change it to 300dpi and try again. Or, you could always add some extra memory to the printer. If you decide to add extra memeory, don't forget to tell the print driver it has more memory
First of all, I wouldn't spend 10 cents on this printer at this point, but is there a toner cartridge installed? It could be empty, and it's probably not going to print very well after all this time anyway. Try giving it a few shakes side to side to loosen any toner that may be inside, if that doesn't get it going, then pick up a new laser printer for $70-$100 (basically the price of a replacement toner cartridge)
If it only prints the 1st 3/4 ish of the page then it could either be the page slipping a bit due to poor pick up rollers or much more likely it could be that you are sending a large file to the printer and the printer does not have enough memory.
Try printing in draft or scale down the res/size of the file you are printing
I'm a repairman, actually i also love this model of printer. Actually the brown film you print out is a fuser teflon cover or some people call it fuser film. This film functions is to transfer the heat to toner powder on paper. If this fil are broken or damage, there will effect your printer easily paper jam when print and also will effect your print our quality. For example, when you print out something (full of the page), you will find some of the section, their character or graphic(toner powder)will missing or not stick on paper, when you use the finger to touch it. If you need to change the fuser film, you can buy it any where and if you need the service manual to disassembly it, please go here http://www.fastrepairguide.com to download it.
