Step 1: Which operating system ? Laptop computers can be wonderful devices, except when the need to troubleshoot arises. Acer laptops are no different. A quick way to fix many problems with an Acer laptop running Windows is to reset it to factory settings. Resetting your Acer laptop to factory settings can eliminate slow operation, registry problems, virus problems and spyware issues. What's more, a factory reset of your laptop may reduce the need for a full reinstallation of Windows.
Back up all necessary data to an external device such as a disk, flash drive or hard drive Make sure all programs are closed and shut down your Acer laptop. Detach any external hardware such as an external hard drive or printer. Press the Power button to boot your Acer laptop. Press "Alt-F10" on your keyboard when the Acer screen appears at the start of the boot-up process. Wait a moment while Windows loads the reset files. Select "Restore System from factory default" in the Acer eRecovery Management window. Click "Next" on the next screen to continue. Click "Next" on the following destination information window. This will pop up a notice telling you that resetting your Acer laptop will erase all data and restore the laptop to its original settings and configuration. Click "OK" in the notice window to proceed with resetting your Acer laptop. Wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.
To restore your machine back to the factory settings, just follow the simple step mentioned below. Be sure that you've backed up your personal files though before doing
this because resetting your machine will wipre out any changes you have made on the machine.
For an Acer machine, just press Alt+F10 when you boot up the laptop. You will see Acer
Recovery Management, select "restore system to factory default settings" then follow the on-screen instructions and you should be good to go.
To reset your laptop to its factory state you need to restart or turn it on, then just tap F10, It will ask you on how would you loke to restore then select Restore system to factory settings. Usually it would ask you for a password just etern six zeros "000000" it should work. Please wait until the restore process is completed.
Note: All data will be deleted so make sure you back up them first before you do a Restore to Factory Settings
To restore to factory setting, power up the laptop, when you see the logo, press both Alt and F10 key, it will initiate the recovery program. Follow the instruction on screen to restore to factory setting.
If you want to completely reset it back to the original windows settings you must re-format your computer. This won't put the original programs back on it that you had before, but it will give your computer a COMPLETE reset. Meaning also that if you want to keep some data you must put it on some external drive because your hard drive will be completely overwritten.
If you want to get it back to just the factory settings, you could try to contact their customer services if they don't anything on their site to help you, although I would not recommend it. Factory settings aren't the best because they usually put stuff on your computer that you don't really want. Re-formatting is the best thing to do.
If windows is running you can start it by going to Programs, Acer Empowering Technology and run the Acer eRecovery Management. Note that on the bottom of the eRecovery Management window are 3 choices, Backup, Burn Disk and Restore. Click on Restore. Here you have the choice of select Restore System to Factory Default.
If windows is not working but the system boots -
Reboot the system and when the Acer logo appears, hold down the ALT key and press F10. This starts the recovery process, just follow the instructions.
