Bad panel on 42'' DP42746??

I have a 42'' DP42746 Plasma TV. I have replaced the upper and lower boards. I have also replaced the y and x main boards. All the TV does is flash a bunch of bluish and redish wild colors and there is one bare black spot about the size of a software off from the middle of the screen. The audio is fine. Also on the tuner board?(where your inputs go) there is a small green led light that constantly flashes when it has the power on. Could it be the panel has gone bad? I just need some assurance before I buy a panel from the usual place. Please reply soon if anyone has clue on my problem. If the panel is bad, Shouldn`t it be completely dead?

Yes I meant softball. It is not lines at all. It is flashes of the colors. It is not solid colors. It is like a bunch of colors. Mostly bluish and redish. What percent do you say it is the panel? If it was not the panel should there be a snowy screen? You can not see any picture at all. Please reply soon.

Green tint in picture

Are the lines completely through the screen or just the upper or lower part of the screen? If through the whole picture, lines in the picture of a plasma can be caused by a defective Main Logic Control board or a bad plasma panel. The panel, if available would be very expensive (cheaper to buy a new TV). If the lines are just on the upper or lower part of the screen then it is the upper or lower scan drive board. Here is a list of the parts for your TV.

Sanyo turn it on green light comes on and stays on but tv will not model dp42746

open back panel and look for error code

to test all y sub boards remove the main power connection to the y main and turn the tv on if it powers on one of those boards are bad.. remove both sub boards. and plug in the y main. if it powers on then that board is good either, put your multimeter on 2k omh and test the upper ysub boards black connector, the top 2 pins with negative to the 5th pin positive. you should read 500-1k ohm if its way under 100 there is a short.

the bottom ysub board place the multimeters black probe on the bottom 2 pins of the black power conection and the red on the 4th pin.. results are the same.

low resistance means theres a short in the board.

This is a common problem with these TVs. You can download the official Sanyo repair manual for this TV (DP42746) at http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/43343/sanyo_dp42746.html. I uploaded it here when I had the same issue with my TV last year. The solution is almost always to replace the Power Board (Y-Main) and the Upper and Lower Y Buffers. The parts and costs (from Sanyo in July 2009) are listed below (NOTE: Sanyo will not ship these parts to anyone but a repair shop): 1. V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01200A, Alt Part # LJ41-02759A) - USD $139.00
2. Upper Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01202A, Alt Part # LJ41-02760) - USD $64.00
3. Lower Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01203A, Alt Part # LJ41-02761A) - USD $64.00
Sanyo charges USD $10.50 for shipping, which brings the total cost for parts to USD $277.50. From my research, a shop would probably charge between USD $500 and $700 to do this repair. FYI - there is a class action lawsuit pending against Sanyo for this issue. The V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Boards fail VERY frequently in this TV due to overheating. Hope this helps.

I get just half a picture and it is always on the top half, the bottom is black or hazy colors

You will need to replace the Y Buffer boards. If you are looking at the back of the set, the Y-main is to the left. Connected to this board are the upper and lower buffer boards.

They control the top half and bottom half of your picture.

Replace those, and you should be fine.

Please note that it is possible for the Y-Main and/or the Panel itself have caused these boards to fail. Replacing the Y-Main might be within a reasonable cost, but replacing the panel is not worth the cost.

Replace the y-main board and the upper and lower buffer boards. 300.00 from Sanyo. Install them your self or get someone technically minded to do it for you. It worked for me. It's been 6 months and the t.v. is still going strong.

42" Sanyo HD Plasma TV (Model DP42746)

Scott,
Not at all crazy! The Samsung/Akai lines seem to have numerous problems with their Y and Z sustain boards and upper/lower Y driver boards (aka buffers). That and power supplies are generally the largest percentage of the problems in those units. That said, I'm a bit confused looking at the p/n you referenced. I don't see that as being a Samsung number belonging to a Y-sus board. Usually they start with BPxx-xxxxxx..
Lastly, while you might have every ability to replace the Y-sus board if the buffers are bad and you don't replace them you could simply burn up the sustain board when you power it up... Installing the buffers is a bit more complex than the sustain board so be really careful there...\
Good Luck
Bill
