Cable type is dependent on length of wire, for optimal results. Make sure both speaker cables are the same length, and as short as possible. Under 10 ft you can use 18 gauge wire, and over that length, a 16 wire. Extremely long connections might warrant a 12 wire, but few amplifiers can handle such high resistance without seriously distorting the sound.
