Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

1 Answer

Hi, My HP shut down unexpectadly. Now every time i try to turn it on it gets as far as the bios info then shuts down. i had someone look at it and they say its not the battery or ram, but from what he's read it could be a problem concurrent with the model. Any ideas?

This might be an indication that a hardware is failing. go to BIOS and leave it turned on, see if it will still shut down randomly. If it does, then it is definitely a hardware problem. If it still under warranty, call HP for support. You can also visit HP Support Website for more info.
If it is hardware problem, try isolating it by re-seating the parts which has an integrated chip like RAM, VIDEO CARD and CPU. If you have two sticks of RAM, try each one without the other and see which one is failing. You can also switch to the integrated video if you have one to test the graphics card. Make sure you have the proper knowledge on how to handle these parts as this might cause damage on the computer and electric shock.

HP DV928US When battery in or charger plugged in

fails battery out so leave it out they love to short.
so when it fails test 2 is, hit the F10 or ESC key promptee
went it fails to boot, check BIOS key first, if BIOS fails.
be more clear.
what does it do when it wont turn on.
BIOS dead. screen 100% dead, and not even text
BIOS works even with HDD and DVD drive pulled.
that is the acid test on PCs.
the screen must say, hit F10? or ESC to enter setup, means HP BIOS. it must or power is no good. get a new power pack
the shut down tell me lost power, that can be the power pack 19vdc
or the jack at the mobo if failing to said pack.
try side pressure on that jack if at anytime the power button fails.

it self shuts down, I got that but lets fix , cant boot first.
that is how to fix this.
power on failures, are you saying the power key fails. some times
and the fan does not run every time.?
Also,
this old LT uses CCFL back lamps.
that love to fail. so when it shut down did the fan die.
did the HDD stop spinning ear to bottom? if not the CCFL is failing.
using and external monitor proves this every time,
do the flash light trick?

Shuts down

Hi..

If the laptop shutdown maybe it cause overheating.
Laptop shuts down? Computers may not be smarter than people, but if they’re designed properly, they will shut themselves down before overheating to the extent that they do themselves damage. If the smart person keeps turning the notebook back on and figures out a way to foil the protection, the laptop is probably doomed. Once a laptop shuts down for thermal event protection, it may refuse to power back up for a fixed period of time, five or ten minutes, or it may begin to boot and shut down immediately as soon as it boots to the point that it can figure out that its too hot. The over-temperature protection is generally a BIOS rather than an operating system function, so one sign of an overheated laptop is one that shuts itself down while you’re using it and then refuses to boot as far as the operating system unless you leave it alone for an hour or so to cool down. Unless you’ve been working in a very unfriendly environment, high temperatures, direct sunlight, etc, you should take even a single overheating shutdown as a warning to back up your data at the first opportunity and to give the cooling system a serious cleaning.

Good luck !!!

My HP Compaq Presario v2000 has new mobo, new CPU

You probably put more than a pin-head size drop of heat grease compound on CPU, thus "bleeding" over on the CPU, effectively overheating processor (very common). In any event, your problem is overheating -that's *the* place to look for now.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like your power supply may have died. Check all the power connections to your pc (if it is connected to a power-bar, make sure the power bar has not gone bad). If everything looks good there, you probably need to by a new PSU (Power Supply Unit)
