Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

We have a kenmore electric range/oven..model 790.46994. after baking dinner tonite, we left the stove on..or it may have turned itself on by itself. either way, we tried flipping the power breaker and turning it off. then we hit the breaker and immediately the oven began heating back up again. i tried holding cancel/off for a few seconds, and the door locked...so now the door is locked, the oven wont turn off unless we flip the breaker to and it keeps giving us a message on the screen that says ''F1'' please help, thanks. any kind of reboot on this thing? or is it a short? thanks, -james

what did you do...mine did the same.

ack...ok...im going to type this again.
so we turned the breaker off for the whole nite so it totally cooled down.
then in the morning i turned the breaker on while someone was right next to the oven. as soon as it turned on(before it had time to heat up and do its thing) he hit the bake button then turned it to 400. and as soon as the oven preheated to 400 the oven turned off.
when i was researching i found that f1 meant either the computer/controller module was bad(which doesnt seem to be it) or it was an old heating element(the metal piece on the bottom of the oven that turns red hot) and the element was grounding out. so our best guess was that the oven was so dirty that it was causing the element to ground? maybe not though. i think the oven was running pretty damn hot the night before before we figured it out like it was running a cleaning cycle. so maybe the oven cleaning burned off the gunk that could have been grounding the element. not totally sure if that was it though...either way, try turning it on when it is totally cooled down, and try hitting bake and preheating to 400deg.
maybe it was a glitch and we just tricked the computer.
    cheers,
    -james
    happy baking

Loud pop and light behind stove. Stove top works, oven does not.

Good Morning Stephanie - Typically you may locate the model and serial number in the storage drawer, on the right side. Based on the symptoms you are describing, you may either have a communication error from the main control board or a faulty bake and/or broiler element. If resetting the unit did not solved the issue, at this point I would personally contact a professional to accurately diagnose the range to determine the root cause to reduce the risk of unnecessary parts.

Hi

F3-E2 Error indicates a loose/broken wire on the oven temp sensor or the oven temp. sensor itself is bad and should be replaced. To solve this issue test the oven temp. sensor, it should read between 1080-1120 ohms, if the rating is more then that and the door appears to be closing fine then it is the control board that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.
