Maytag Square-Front (1998) and Sloped-Front (1999) Dryers Front Panel and Top...

Most of the internal components of Maytag Square-Front (1998) and Sloped-Front (1999) Dryers can be accessed with the removal of the front panel and lifting of the top cover. The top cover can only be lifted after the front panel is removed. Make sure that power to the machine is disconnected prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

The first step is the removal of the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to the front shroud assembly. Once the four screws are removed, grasp and press in on the upper edges of the front panel posts then twist it inward to release the clips holding it to the cabinet. Tilt the top of the front panel and move it away from the dryer.

The top cover is held on each side of the cabinet by hold down brackets. Locate and remove the 5/16" hex-head screws holding each bracket then swing the bracket to the outside and unhook it from the slot in the top cover lip. Open the door then lift the front of the top cover and tilt it toward the rear of the dryer.

The internal components of the dryer can now be accessed. Reinstall the top cover and the front panel in reverse of the removal steps.

This procedure is also applicable to Maytag Neptune Front-Load Washers. The only difference is the dispenser bezel removal.

The top cover is held by two hold down brackets hidden behind the front panel posts. Lifting of the top cover requires the removal of the front panel. Disconnect power to the dryer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Open the dryer door and remove the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening and securing the front panel to the front shroud assembly.

The front panel is held to the cabinet by clips on each side secured to the cabinet front flange. Small slots in each side of the front panel engage the clips and hold the front panel in place. Grasp the sides of the front panel near the top cover then pull the front panel away from the cabinet.

Tilt the top of the front panel away from the cabinet and lift it up to release it from the two clips retaining its bottom to the base of the dryer, and then move the panel away.

Locate and remove the 5/16" hex-head screw attaching each hold down bracket to the cabinet. Swing each bracket to the outside then unhook it from the slot in the lip of the top cover. Lift the front of the top cover and flip it to the rear of the dryer.

Reassemble the front panel and the top cover by reversing the given disassembly steps.
