GE Gas Dryer DBSR453GB1WW began squeaking during the most recent drying cycle. We should we try to repair ourselves or get a repair tech?

The squeaking noise is most likely emitting from the drum bearing (key#543). In order to access and replace the drum bearing will require removing the drum. The drum bearing/sleeve is part# WE1M462. I added the instructions on how to remove the drum in the images below. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing the dryer.

I have a Frigidaire front load washing machine Model GLTF1670 AS0 which suffered a major drum rattling failure. The Tech would not repair it. Out of spite, we took the drum assembly apart and found that...

If the drum can be replaced for free, your only cost is your own labor! The bearing that you speak of can be replaced by removing the old bearing and taking it to a bearing supply house. There are two bearings--one just in back of the drum and an outer one that is near the drive pulley. If there is bearing damage, it is generally the one nearest the drum. If the shaft of the drum can be put back into the bearings, then try to move the shaft in different directions--it should not move perceptibly. Rotate the shaft, there should be no roughness or sound when turned. I would think that the company would have improved the quality of the drum material if they have had to eat a number of them under warranty. Finally, have you checked the outer drum material near the path of the inner drum--look for any cracking or breaks. Wear areas are usually of no concern. Make sure the seal in front of the bearing has not been damaged. Good luck!

Drum bearing has gone on an AEG 72640 washing machine - is it a drum out repair or can it be done with drum in situ ? I can see that the bearings are available no problem. Would any other seals be needed...

These machines are not a quick one to repair, they have 2 bearings (inner and outer) plus a lip seal. you have to completely dismantle the machine to replace the bearings.

Very noisy when the drum rotates

when there is a noise in the spin cycle as you describe the drum bearing is failing. the bearings are fitted to the outer assembly of the drum.if the outer assembly is got to old then to replace the bearing u have to replace the outer tub assembly too. but this is a costly repair.only bearing replacement is not too costly but bearings with outer assembly replacement is a costly repairing. it requires proper tools to disassemble the washer unit and replace the parts. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

You are referring to the rear drum bearing that has worn away..
It means replacing the rear bearing and drum shaft.
It comes in a repair kit which you can obtain from Hotpoint.
It comes complete with fitting instructions.
Go the Hotpoint web site, and you should be able to order the parts on line.

My hotpoint cdt00 tumble dryer makes a loud banging noise on each rotation what is causing this

It is probably a worn rear drum bearing, remove cover of drum shaft, and examine the drum shaft for wear.

Spin Cycle is very loud on front load washing machine

See here
How to fit a Bearing in a Washing Machine | Appliance Repair Help

  • If a washing machine is rumbling, and very noisy on spin, the main suspect is the drum bearings. Drum bearing failure is common on many washing machines due to water getting into them if the drum bearing seal fails. (Hotpoint and Zanussi in particular in my experience) To check for drum bearing failure you can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand. If the drum rumbles when spun then the bearings may have gone. There should be a constant rumble all the time the drum is revolving.
  • Another drum bearing failure symptom is excessive up and down play in the drum which can be checked for by lifting the drum up and down from the drum lip behind the door seal. A further symptom of drum bearing failure can be a brown rust patch underneath the washing machine and down the back of the outer drum, underneath the drum pulley (where the belt goes) although this patch is not always present. There are usually two small holes at the back of the drum bearings where water that has got past the drum bearing seal trickles out, and it's usually stained with grease and rust if water has got into the bearings.
  • Loud noises when turning the drum by hand can also be caused if the drum itself splits, or the spider at the back of the drum has come away from the drum, is corroded or even broken. This would normally be a loud noise on each revolution of the drum whereas the noise when drum bearings have gone is constant all the time the drum is turning. Lifting the drum checking for excessive play can often reveal a broken or loose drum spider which sometimes only occurs at certain points round the drum (the spider has three arms and is bolted to the drum at three points)
