Question about Dell Dimension 4700 PC Desktop

I downloaded the audio drivers from the dell website but when i open the driver, it says that it doesnt support my audio hardware, how do i fix that ?

First ensure you have only onboard soundcard. If this is the stock card. You can attempt to check for one model down or up from yours. Occasionaly dell has misplaced drivers on their site.

You can also try to find the driver in device manager, update driver, search online through microsoft update. Depending on the model sometimes Microsoft will have a suitable generic driver.

Install audio device in computer from

By audio device do you mean the software to make the sound work?
Right click on the 'my computer' icon. Click on properties. Then click on 'hardware' or 'device manager'
In the window that then opens it will list all the hardware and drivers in your computer. If a particular piece of hardware isn't working correctly because of missing drivers there will be either a yellow or red warning symbol alongside its name (i.e .. sound .. video..).
Click on the name of the hardware/driver that has a yellow or red warning mark, then choose 'update driver'. Your computer will then search itself and the internet for a suitable driver.
If it can't locate any drivers, try manually downloading the drivers from the manufacturer's website. You have to know what make of sound card/audio chip is in your computer.
Try a driver scan by downloading a scan program
If it can't fix your problem it may at least identify what driver you need. Then go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers.
One of the most common audio drivers is Realtec AC 97. try a download. If its the wrong driver for your computer it won't install and you won't cause any damage.

Every time i turn on my pc it reinstalls Dell SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC drivers

Go to dells website and download the latest driver for the audio.

Some or part of the driver is missing which the new driver will fix.

Hi whitco0313,

A corrupted or missing audio driver can cause this problem. You can try to do a System restore back to the earliest date that it worked fine. If this doesn't help, you need to check out Dell website and download the audio driver compatible for your laptop model and operating system version.

then download the audio driver of your labtop model and vinstall it in your labtop

I tried to remove some unwanted programs, and I accidently erased the speakers is there an easy fix?

there is a tag number on a label on your pc go to the dell site and eneter the tag number and it will show you a list of drivers download the audio driver and install it and your sound will be repaired

My dell inspiron 1521 cd rom player is not working

The driver needs to be reloaded. It may still be in the Dell Utilities Program, the Dell Drivers File, or it can be downloaded from Dell's website. Go to Control Panel/System/Hardware Manager and drop down to CD Rom Devices. Right click on your product and click on drivers/update driver. If your device isn't listed there go to install hardware in control panel. You might want to swap the CD rom unit with a known good one. On three occasions I've had the CD Drivers be OK, but the Windows drivers were corrupted. Had to reload the operating system completely to make it all work again.

No.1 ALL (DELL) notebook and laptop machines use sound chips, audio features are provided by software emulation. This means whats inside your computer isn't a full blown sound card as such. Its a sound chip that mimics a real sound card using software.

No.2 Your machine may be missing the precise make & model sound drivers, in order to get hold of the correct sound drivers for your Inspiron 1520
go to DELL's website and under the support section see login or drivers. You will need your machines service tag (underneath the machine) put this into the website and ALL your machines device drivers should appear in a long listing. You can then download the sound or audio drivers for free.

**Just download the drivers to a temporary folder and then run the installation process, you may need to reboot the machine to complete the process.

**Line in is just a socket or channel that allows input from a microphone. You STILL need a hardware microphone connected a) either the built in microphone that comes with the machine or b) plug in an external microphone.

**You can always use Windows (assuming your using windows) device manager, open device manager & look down the listing for audio devices, to see if the Microphone hardware is being seen by the operating system. If it's not it will have a yellow exclamation mark or question mark next to it.

Dell just updated their Support site and have included a download manager, so the 1st time you go to download a driver, it prompts you to download the download manager, then you get the driver downloded thru the manager. Or just open this link to start teh download of the audio driver:

On the Audio driver question: the answer is yes the Audio driver is what allows you to have sound.

On the DVD software, I did not see any software on Dell link. Download Windows Media, newest version is ver.11
It will allow you to watch DVDs
