Question about Bosch Drills

Open Question

Have a Skil model 425 1/2 inch drill that quite running. It is reversible and variable speed. It appears to be the switch. The switch was made by Arrow-Heart. The switch is a 5 amp 125 VAC and has the number 7751 on the side of the switch. Where can I get a replacement switch. This has been like looking for chicken's teeth. The drill is still in good condition except it just stopped running. Hate to through away a good drill for the lack of a switch

SOURCE: How do I change the chuck on a 5 amp skil drill. It is keyless.

If it's anything like their other drills, there is a safety screw with left-hand threads inside chuck.

  1. Turn it clockwise until loose.
  2. Then insert the short arm of a 3/8" hex wrench and tighten.
  3. Strike long arm of wrench sharply counter-clockwise and chuck should loosen to unthread from spindle.

SOURCE: cannot get keyless drill chuck off

Get two pairs of multigrips or a vice. If you have the drill facing away from you will need to turn the base of the chuck clockwise and the top anti clockwise. Put a cloth on chuck to stop it being scratched.

My cordless drill is running at half RPM. Is it the brushes or the motor?

cordless drills have a switch that allows for more torque at lower rpms si in effect it is a 2 speed drill coupled with a variable speed switch that alters the rpms
If the drill is running I would be looking at a speed control problem at this point I would be looking at the torque control switch

How to wiring the power cord to the F/R switch?

Will need more information: make, model, etc. A corded drill motor can be AC or DC. It can be variable speed on not. An AC motor can be reversed by changing the magnetic polarity of the start winding (switching the two start winding wires). This type of wiring in not usually variable speed. A DC motor is reversed by changing the electrical polarity of the primary motor leads. Usually these type of devices have a rectifier circuit to produce DC voltage and use a PWM signal to develop variable speed.

I have a Skil Model 2363 drill. Used it about 3 times. Put it in the charger and it won't charge. I have it for about 1-1/2 years. Skil says I have to buy a new one. That the battery is no longer made....

Sometimes places like Batteries + and the Battery Barn (on line web sites) will have replacement batteries for popular models even after the manufactures quit producing them. That is where I found batteries for my Bosch drill.

Hi, I am a Japanese carpenter. I recently purchaed a SF4000-A and dont understand why it features variable speed control switch. Can someone please teach me how I am supposed to use this feature?

The SF4000a Is a cordless Drywall Gun. Even thought it has variable speeds most people run it full speed and then press and engage the chuck to run the screws in. The variable speed is used more to back out screws in reverse
