TV is Panasonic Model TC-P50X1. Theater System is Samsung, Model XT-X50. And yes, the Direct TV box is right there with the TV and is a DVR.

Who are the manufacturer and model number of the the TV and Home Theater? Also, is the Direct TV box HD capable and is it located in the same room as the equipment you are connecting?

    Try this combination....

    You will need....
    2 HDMI cables
    1 Optical Audio Cable
**** Note: you can save a lot of money buying these cables on eBay *****

This is the way to connect them...

Take 1 HDMI cable and connect it to the Direct TV box output and then connect the other end to the HDMI 1 input on the back of the TV.

Take the other HDMI cable and connect it to the HDMI OUT on the back of the Home Theater and connect the other end to the HDMI 2 input on the back of the TV.

Connect the Optical Audio cable to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT on the back of the TV and the other end to the DIGITAL AUDIO IN OPTICAL on the back of the Home Theater.

When you are watching the Direct TV set the input on the TV to HDMI 1 and the input on the Home Theater to AUX.

When you are watching the DVD on the home theater set the TV to HDMI 2 and the Home Theater system set to DVD.

This is the simplest way to set up your system but there is a slightly less expensive way to do this as well but this will give you the best quality of sound but if you would like the other version let me know and I will post it for you as well.

    Good Luck....

    Option #2-

    Items needed...
2 Component cables (Green,Blue, Red, White and Red)
    1 Optical Audio Cable

    How to connect the cables-

Locate the component output on the back of the Direct TV box (Green,Blue, Red, White and Red connectors)
Connect 1 component cable to the COMPONENT OUTPUT on the Direct TV box to the COMPONENT 1 IN on
    the back of the TV.

Connect the other component cable to the COMPONENT OUT on the back of the Home Theater and the other
end to the COMPONENT 2 IN on the back of the TV.

Connect the Optical Audio Cable the same way as the first option. (Digital Audio Out on the back of the TV and
Digital Audio In Optical on the Home Theater.)

When you are watching the Direct TV set the input on the TV to COMPONENT 1 and the input on the Home Theater to AUX.

When you are watching the DVD on the home theater set the TV to COMPONENT 2 and the Home Theater system set to DVD.

    Good Luck...

Hi busy girl
To answer your question;
I`ve looked at the setup you have and there is only one practical way to hook it up since you`re not using a receiver with audio/video in and out.
First if you want high definition you need to use either component(YPbPr) or hdmi/dvi cables.
But lets stick to component cables, they usually are green/red/blue and audio cables red/white.
At the back of your direct tv/dvr you will connect the three component out cables and run them to your tv`s component input 1.
Still at the back of your dvr you will run the audio out to your samsung "aux in 2".
Next at the back of your samsung you will connect the component out and run it to the tv`s component input 2.
So now when you listen to direct tv you will have the tv on component input 1 and your samsung on aux input to get the sound.
And when you`re watching a dvd all you will have to do is switch the tv to component input 2.
This setup will work.
I know you`ll say that there is no audio into the tv but that is because there is no audio out on your home theater system.
The only way you could get sound from the tv and home theater when you are watching direct tv would be to split the audio out (of the direct tv) in 2, then you would need Y splitters.
I know this might be a little confusing but give it a try and contact me if you have questions.
Good luck

Flashing error codes could be the Direct tv box itself.Because tvs have problems within itself don't flashes error codes on the tv screen, the problems, just show up.Tries tv and Direct tv satellite box unplug, replug it back like about an hour later.By letting the tv resetting itself back to the factory setting and the Direct tv box updates it softwares data's.The problems should be solved,if have the same problems, first call Direct tv for a replacement box,see how it work out.Than turn ur attention to the tv.

Panasonic home theater

switch the HDMI cable to another HDMI port (if available).
or use and AVI/COMPONENT to make sure the device (HOME THEATHER) is working fine.
Try also another HDMI cable or hook another device into it to see how it works.
If you determine the HDMI port in not working properly, then your Mainboard is damaged and need to be replaced, try EBAY for a general picture of prices but you will need your product code wich is located in the back of the TV next to serial number.

Connecting samsung home theater to samsung lcd tv and direct tv

Need to get more granular on this, Does the volume work HT remote, for like radio, cd, ipod audio? For you to use the tv audio through the HTB the tv's audio settings should be on the "fixed" output option. This gives a line level to the Amp independant of the tvs volume adhjustment. Otherwise you will need to adjust tvs volume 75% or so before the audio amp will reproduce a good volume. Turn down audio amp prior to making any adjustments. Let me know thx
