Question about Canon Pixma MP500 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have a Canon Pixma MP500. Everytime I try to print, I get an error message that says the inner cover is open, but it's not. I've turned the machine off, unplugged it, confirmed the cover/flap is up and it's still not working. I've also tried flicking the cover down and up a few times, then pressed OK, but still not printing. The printer is currently in for a clean and check over, hoping this would fix it. Spoke with technician who says error message still coming on, and is unable to find the sensor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert H.

Hello sir;Lift up the inner cover , on the right hand side there have a round hole look down the hole you will find a piece metal, try find some stick to push down that's door switch, if the message disapear, means door switch is OK, then have make sure your reset procedure is correct, close all cover turn switch off , UNPLUG power cord, wait for about one minute plug in and turn on the power again, it should be work.

Canon pixma mp500 error 6500

Hello! Welcome to FixYa
First try this to solve error 6500:

Firstly Reset the printer and
Turn the printer off with the Power button then disconnect the data cable from the printer.Unplug the printer's power cord for approximately 10 minutes, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer on. If this works you have solved the problem If this not works then try the next step:
After confirming that the printer is powered on,open the paper output tray and Open the top cover and wait until the print head moves to the center then Open the inner cover and check that ink tanks are properly seated.Press down on each ink tank until a click is heard.Close the inner cover and top cover. Also do you have any kind of data equipment like a camera connected, if so this could be causing the problem as well.

If the inner cover is open when starting normal printing, close it before pressing [OK] on the machine.Do not open or close the inner cover when printing. This may damage the machine.

The inner cover (flap in front of cartridges) is closed but the following sign keeps reappearing "inner cover is open. Close the inner cover and press ok".

When the message shows means inner cover sensor is faulty so it cannot detect inner cover state correctly. Try to clean the contact sensor with contact cleaner is good idea since it sometimes an oxidation occurs. Many times I success fix the problem like this.

Getting "inner cover is open" message

The inner cover is a flap on the inside in front of the carriage when it is at rest when the cover us open. You had to flip the inner cover down to access the ink cartridges.
Open the cover. The inner cover is in the center and need to be flipped up.
Good luck.

Canon Printer Inside Cover Open Error Message

There are sensors that tell if covers are in place. Some sensors are photocells, some are little switches. A tab will interrupt the photocell or push the switch. If the tab has broken off, make a new one. The fun part is finding the sensor.
