Hi,

First thing you should do was to do a diagnostic in F12 run the diagnostic for CD DVD so that you could verify the functionality of the parts. It's still in warranty you can still asked for repair or system exchange .

When I put a cd/dvd in, it wont read it, and just spits it back out

Possible that the optical unit is not reading and might be defective.
If so you might have to replace, or use an external drive.
BBut make sure the DVD driver is intact, or reinstall to check once again if there is any hardware conflict.
If not the hardware is faulty. clean the lens eye and try .

My dell studio laptop (one month old) has problems playing dvds

It sounds like you have eliminated a media player problem.

Here are some more things you could try:

Disable your antivirus when playing the movie.

Have Dell replace CD/DVD drive. I got a bad drive in my new Latitude and they replaced it. It was a long phone call...be prepared.

It could be overheating. Make sure you have good air flow under the notebook. They make notebook coolers which you can find with a web search.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Same issue

Is the computer under warranty, if so take it back to the supplier to have it fixed.
If you try to fix it yourself you will void your warranty.

Can't insert CD into Dell Studio 17 - ejects!

There are small plastic drive gears that respond to the drivebelt. These gears are very fragile and may have come out of syncronization.

CD drive clicking sound

Hello my friend please try to insert 2 new CD. and then try to observe the sound if it is still sounds like the weird. Then if you notice that the 2 new CD you insert produce same sound as your old one then i recommend that if you can find computer technician in your place to verify if your DVD/CD Rom is defective or not cause as of now if the 2 new cd inserted produces same sound as your old cd inserted then DVD/CD Rom has something to do its either defective or has a serious problem that needs assistance.

Thank you

Ejecting cd dell studio 17

Supposing that the Studio 15 / 17 has a slot loading drive:

You can either press the eject button above the keyboard (the touch sensitive one)

or

Go to 'Computer' in Vista and right click the CD/DVD drive. Then click 'Eject'.

This should work.
