Re: bar not oiling
Oil System Plugged.
Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar), if equipped with a sprocket nose ensure it rotates easily at least one complete revolution. Clean the saw oiler hole and channel. Insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out. Pay attention to the screen or filter on the free end (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability). Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up. If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
Work your way through the linkage cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at bends and connections. If equipped with an oil pump it is usually behind the clutch (clutch is a left handed thread). Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly.
If it does not oil on completion of 1 it is most likely a bad oiler or worm gear. Please see the IPL to aid in oiler component identification. This also aids disassembly.
Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed. Poulan (Craftsman, Jonsered, Husky) clutch removal tool part number 530031112 if needed, is under $5 from many sources (look at the visible area between the weights if 2 small round sockets are visible you need the tool).
There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of nylon rope (nothing left behind) be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
Everyone I have ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it). HTH

Release the chain brake and remove the bar and chain. Clean the engine area where the bar fits up to, and start the engine--oil should ooze out of the side port there. If nothing, then the oil pump, oil line, or oil filter in the tank may have failed. If it oozes ok, then clean the drive end of the bar--especially the two small passages that run from the large holes out to the chain groove on each edge of the bar. Re-assemble everything, then run the saw bar-tip near some cardboard for several moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil. There should be an oil volume adjustment screw head under the case near the chain return area--turn CCW to increase flow. Hope this helps!
Remove the bar and chain (release the chain brake first) and clean the side of the engine case where the bar fits to. Start the engine and observe whether oil oozes out of the side port. If ok, clean the small oil passages in the drive end of the bar that run out to the chain groove on each edge from the large holes. If no oil came out, then the oil pump, oil line, or oil tank filter may require service. Good luck!
Remove the bar and chain--clean the port area where the bar fits. Run the saw at speed for a few moments--it should ooze oil out of the port. If it doesn't, then you need to check the pump, lines, and tank for plugging or other problems. If the oil came out ok, then clean the bar drive-end small oil passages that run out to the chain groove on each side. Clean the entire chain groove as well. Reassemble the bar and chain (the teeth cut toward you on the lower run), and adjust the chain so that it just pulls up to the bar, but not so tight that you can't pull it by hand. Run the saw tip at speed near some cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil. Hope this helps!
1. clean bar & saw - checking oil holes, groove on bar; oil outlet on saw - may be partially blocked - a fine wire may assist with careful clearing. 2. if cleaned replace bar/chain and test for oil flow. 3. drain oil and check if there is a filter, clean/replace filter and clean out tank. 4. see step 2 5. If still not flowing - check for manual adjustment of oil pump.(May need to be advanced) The next steps depend on your own abilities and experience as to whether you want to further investigate or approach a reputable dealer to see about repairing or replacing oil pump and or associated oil line(depends on your brand/model etc).
Yes as it helps keep a loose chain from jumping into the case side. Remove the bar and chain, then clean the side port area. Start the engine--it should ooze out oil from the case side port. If nothing, inspect the oil pump, lines, and tank filter. Once oil comes out, clean the drive end of the bar oil-passages--especially, the two small channels that feed oil from the large holes out to the chain groove on either side of the bar. Clean the entire groove and check the sprocket tip for free operation. When assembled, check for proper oiling by holding the bar tip near a piece of cardboard and running the saw at speed for a few moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the cardboard. Remove the rear case cover which exposes both tanks, the oil pump and the short coupling line that goes from the pump to the bracket that the bar assembly bolts to. If you remove the bar and chain, that exposes the side port that is coupled to the hole in the bar that distributes the oil to the chain. There is a screw in the case back near the bar that adjusts the oil volume. When the bar/chain is off, clean the side port on the engine, and start the engine. It should ooze out oil when running at moderate speed. Clean the oil passages in the bar end including the two small ports that go out to the chain groove on each side. After everything is back together, run the saw bar tip at speed near a piece of cardboard for several moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil. Hope this helps!

If it does, then clean the drive end of the bar (large oil holes out to the chain groove on each side. Also clean the entire groove and oil the sprocket on the outer end (if equipped). If oil did not ooze out of the port, the oil pump, oil filter, and any intervening lines should be inspected. Once you have oil proceeding from the port, reassemble the bar and chain. Check for proper oiling by running the outer tip of the bar (at speed) near to a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the cardboard. Hope this helps!

Need to determine if the oil is really bad or not. The oil is pumped out of a hole on the back side of the bar. It pumps the oil into a hole in the bar where the chain catches the oil and carries it around the bar. Sometimes that hole can get clogged up with sawdust and won't let the oil into the bar. You can take the bar and chain completely off if you like. Clean it will then with the bar off start the chainsaw and see if you're getting oil of the injector. Most times this will fix the problem. If this doesn't fix the problem clean out the oil tank and clean the nozzle to the injector.
hi cindilou50 check the oil filter from the oil tank,the oil line ,the worm gear and the oiler under the clutch.Clean the ways where the oil goes with compresed air.(after you fill out the oil tank)Also check the oil hose.
