Hello Ray,

Can you even get into the R4i menu? If you can get into the menu okay, then you have the right card firmware installed, another thing you can check is if your games are in .rar or .zip format, which need to be unpacked to find the .nds game rom inside.

If you suspect that you have unstable fake clone version you can get a genuine card like the R4 SDHC here. http://www.dscardworld.com I managed to find this site after I got burned at a few others. Loved having my emails responded to because I had loads of questions, and they were quick to ship it. They test each card before sending them. US based support and shipping I believe.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My R4i showed the "menu?"

As long as the .nds files are in the directory you're checking in, it sounds as if you're having a firmware problem. You may want to back up all your files, delete everything, then re-download your firmware and place your games back on. If this still does not resolve the issue, then you may be looking at a physical defect in the card itself, but from your description that sounds unlikely.

Hi my son has upgraded his dsi xl and his game cart will not work it is a R4i v1.4 do i need toupgrade the game cart? thanks

Hi Sharon,

Once your DSi console has been updated to v1.4.3 firmware it cannot then be downgraded. If you are using a genuine R4i 3DS card (check on the r4dsrevolutioncards.com website by the way, they do a pretty good guide on the different types of genuine / fake cards. Also see r4dsrevolutioncards.com, they're pretty useful for R4i card info) then you should be able to update the firmware of the R4i card through the "Settings" menu of the R4i. You need to do this on a 1.4.2-or-below DSi console, or a DS Lite though.

NintendoDSCards.com has an info page and a video to show you how to update a legit R4i card (NOT fakes) - click here to visit the 1.4.3 R4i Update page.

If you're using a fake card (such as the R4i Gold, R4i Ultra etc.) then it's quite likely the card simply isn't supported and you'd need to get a new one. Your best bet is to buy an authentic card and simply buy something decent that's upgradable. DS cards unfortunately don't last forever, and teams eventually stop supporting the cards - but the fake ones are terrible at this to be honest!

I personally shop with dscardworld (www.dscardworld.com) and they're great, but that's because I live in the US. I used to live in Sweden and if you are in Europe then nds-gear (nds-gear.com) are just better if you live outside of the US/Canada in my opinion, so pick depending on where you live. Both of those shops are authentic retailers of R4i, Acekard and Supercard by the way (probably others too but those are the ones I've used).

If you're getting a card for a 3DS / DSi console I'd recommend a Supercard DSTWO since it's pretty much just awesome and you can play Gameboy Advance games as well on it. But if you just need a basic card or you're using it on a DS Lite / DS, I'd get an Acekard 2i. Up to you really, I think both of them also stock the genuine R4i's but they seem to be going out of fashion these days.

Hope I've helped, good luck!

Bought a R4i Red card, installed newest version 1.4.3b,put new software on the Micro SD card as well,my DSI XL sees the R4i card and I can play games but after a few minutes all data seems to be deleted and...

The R4i Red card might be a fake (the genuine one shows r4i-sdhc.com on the box, note the hyphen!), and if you've updated your console to the latest 1.4.2 or 1.4.3 firmwares it's unlikely to work. Check out R4 DS Revolution Cards at www.r4dsrevolutioncards.com (info site) to differentiate between different versions of R4i cards and make sure you buy a genuine one!

A lot of the fakes will indeed work when you buy them but as soon as you update your console they'll stop working.

Good luck!

I have three R4i V1.41 for nintendo DSi. I bought them 5 months ago e i had never have problems. But when i loaded last game i have found 2 different problem : the first was : the R4i needload a new kernel...

Hi Marte,

You may well be using a fake R4i card, and you probably updated the software on your Nintendo DS to 1.4.2 and now it won't read it. This is normal for most clone cards since they can't actually be updated to use Nintendo's latest firmware.

The real R4i card has manufacturers website www.r4i-sdhc.com, NOWHERE ELSE. Check yours to see if it is this website. If it isn't, and you need a genuine one in the US/Canada, use DSCardWorld.com who are a preferred seller of the authentic ones. They also list NDS-Gear.com but I think they mainly do UK/European orders.

Good luck! Please upvote my answer if I've been helpful :-) Sorry about the possible bad news! :-(

R4i card not working for the DSi after system update

Currently r4i doesnt have a fix for this. I would suggest getting an acekard 2i or hyper r4i.
The way the fixed this issue was to rename the card.
Most fixes show the card as (Danny Phantom) after the patch has been applied.
