Might be the heater or a heater limit or the timer itself. It also could be the wall outlet or circuit breaker. It most likely is the heater itself though. Repair videos and manual on kenmore dryers

The dryer is not heating up and the dial stops at the cool down so the dryer will not shut off by it self. Its a kenmore 70 series dryer.

you need to send the model number, open the door and look around the opening where you put the clothes into the dryer and you'll see the tag with the model number.it will start with 110. or 417.because you have no heat that's why the timer won't advance, when the heat shuts down then the timer advances when the heat comes back on the timer stops moving or advancing,no heat the timer won't move.send the model number

Kenmore Dryer 70 series electric-quit heating and timer wont shut

This link will help you in diagnosis/disassembly/parts.

Possibly a faulty heat element is most common failure. Fix the no heat problem and the dryer should shut off ok.
Make sure you have correct voltage to the unit before tearing apart. Again visit the link above

Kenmore 70 Series Dryer not heating and not cutting off

I had an identical problem to yours this weekend with my Kenmore dryer. There were 2 problems.

1. Timer was broken. Does not advance to "OFF" position on timed dry, however it still works for auto-dry.

2. Thermal fuse was blown. Upon replacing, dryer heated up normally.

I believe when the timer broke, the dryer had kept running and blew the thermal fuse. On Sears' website, thermal fuse is $5.30, timer is roughly $80.

Have a kenmore series 70 dryer. Won't shut off

Yes it deffinetley sounds like you may have a timer issue, if your timer stops and the dryer is running, or if the timer keeps going around and around this will be the problem, however there are thermostats inside the dryer and if you have it set on a HEAT and not a TIMED setting the thermostats won't advance the timer because they havent been set.Hope this helps

Thanks.

Kenmore 70 Series

The most likely cause is a bad ignitor part number 279311. It has to glow to open the valve and ignite the gas. You should hear a loud click when you first start the dryer. That tells us there is voltage to the gas valve.

My Kenmore dryer (model # 11077732795) would not shut off or heat up. I replaced the timer and thermal fuse. The dryer now heats up and the timer moves but never shuts off. Any suggestions.

Just inside the drum on the front panel is a metal sensor strip that detects a change in capacitance as the clothes get dryer. When no more dampness is read the motor is energised by the moisture sensing board. Get the goop off the sensor strips so they can send a dry message.
