Question about Viking 30" Professional Select Built-in Electric Single Oven - VESO130

Smoking viking gas oven

Hi, I have a Viking oven and stove. The oven has a filter that leads to a short pipe to the back vent. Something from there was smoking severely when my wife cooked at 475 deg the other day. I took it apart, and there was a lot of charcoal in the filter pan. I think it was a mouse storage area, but does Viking keep charcoal in these pans to help absorb grease, or are they supposed to be empty? I can't wait to get my hands on that mouse!

SOURCE: how long to run self clean on viking professional

The "Self Clean" will run for quite a while up to 4 hours I believe, during this time, the stove heats up to about 900 degrees!! and during this time the Door is automatically closed via special locks. It will allow you to open once it is finished, it should "Signal" this event.

A weak oven ignitor will cause this problem. even though it eventually lights the temp has dropped considerably so you don't get consistent temp. turn the oven on and listen for the burner to light. should light within about 2 minutes. if not replace oven ignitor(s)

I'm looking at a used Viking double wall oven in gas-Viking Vgd0271SS.. Does anyone know anything about it?

This is a high end wall oven. Common break downs are oven ignitors, all ovens fo that though. Life span for an igniter is 5 to 10 years. Viking is rare to have problems..

My Viking oven will not lite, the igniter glows, but it will not lite. I have to turn on the 4 stove top burners and then it will lite. Also, when the oven reaches temperature and the therastat shuts it...

Hi,
That sounds like you have too high of gas pressure which keeps the oven gas valve from opening...turning on the burners lowers the gas pressure enough to allow the gas valve to open. this is a saftey feature on many gas valves.
To stop that you will need to install a gas pressure regulator which will hold back the gas pressure so the valve can open.

Here is a tip that I wrote about regulators and them failing on the low side, but it will give you and idea what I am talking about and what you need to install in the line to your range.

Hi, There is a good chance the ignitor is bad. Even if it glows, it could be weak enough that it will not open the gas valve. It is very a common problem with the gas stoves.
I would change the ignitor.

Viking oven won't turn on

I had same problem (twice) with my Viking dual fuel range. In my case a relay that supplies power to the oven heating elements failed. The convection fan would run. The elements were warm to the touch. If you have a free standing range, it may be that relay (part number PM010026) which is located in the front of the stove. Remove a long narrow stainless steel panel (1 screw each side) located under where the door hinges. You can hear the relay click when you turn up the oven thermostat. That will help you locate the relay.

Note: Viking does not sell parts. You have to find their parts distributor for your part of the country.
