We see this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can send it without removing the oven from the wall.

SOURCE: Replacing lightbulb in Sharp R953M combi microwave oven

most microwave ovens built in the last 20 years do not have an
access panel to the light bulb. you must remove the screws on the back of the microwave that hold the outer sleeve in place.
Then pull upward and backward on the sleeve to disengage it
from the front lip of the chassis. the light bulb should be close to the front of the microwave behind the control panel. Some lights
are not unscrewable from the socket, but the socket and bulb
come as an assembly.

Found the answer by calling a Sharp technician and they said it was the magnetron tube, which is not worth fixing :( Thought I'd pass this on to anyone that has yet to find out.

The bulbs under the microwave for the work space do not work.

On a sharp R-1480, they use a solid state IC on the control board to switch the night/work lights on and off. These IC's can burn up and quit working, or short out and not turn the lights off. I replaced several of these boards close to twenty years ago but I never saw one that was anywhere near close to being a fire hazard. I'm sure that these boards are no longer available.....

Looks like you just have to take off the outer cover. From the parts diagram I looked at this looks like a counter top unit. If so, unplug the unit and then remove the outer cover and then locate the lamp and replace it. Looks pretty easy to get to.

I have a Sharp model R-1610 Microwave. The work/night light does not work. I"ve changed the bulbs.

Does it operate with a membrane-type touchpad?

These things seem to be problematic as the microwave ages.

They are usually replaceable, and the cost is not great. I just installed a new touchpad on an LG, and it cost $25.00 plus shipping.
