Question about Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12 for PC

I am using Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate upgrade from Studio 9.4. The first problem: When I select the "Make Disk" function the program appears to write all the individual frames to file but when the disc is finally ejected I find that there is only 5 or 10 minutes of the movie on the disc, and the file stored on my HDD is also only the first few Mb of the whole 4.5Gb movie. PROBLEM 2: This one has raised its head with my latest attempt to write my movie to disc. The program gets to the "Writing Final File" and then just stops working. Windows Task Manager shows that CPU usage is only 1 or 2%. And it will sit there for hours, so obviously it is not writing anything. My Operating System is Windows XP-Pro with SP2 and SP3. What I am saying is ... as Studio12 goes through its "rendering" process -- writing the files for each individual frame in my 105 minute move (which in this case is the move I have just created and edited) -- it normally would store all this 4.5GB of data in one file and then burn that data to the DVD. However, with the first malfunction of my Studio 12 software it would write the first few minutes (only a few Mb of data) into this file, and then when it did write this data to the DVD disc only the first few minutes of the movie were written to the DVD.
    The problem has now become worse because now the program "hangs" (or freezes) at the end of the rendering process and simply will not write anything to the DVD.
    I am using Windows XP-Pro with an Intel D945gcnl mother board and dual-core processor. But this hardware previously worked well with Studio 9.4 and worked for Studio 12 when I fisrt installed that software. Is it possible that I have a partial failure of microprocessor or memory chips??

    Thank you for these comments. Yes, I did try burning at the "slow" speed setting, but also had accessed Paretologic and DriverWhiz websites and downloaded driver updates. Last attempts at writing my edited movie to DVD have succeeded. Main complaint with the driver updates was the cost (!!) Each website wanted about $50 AUD just to let me download updates, and Microsoft should offer these at no cost to the user

My last three attempts to write edited movie to DVD have been successful. My main complaint was the cost -- both websites wanted about $50 AUD just to let me download updates and I consider that Microsoft should make these available at no cost to the user.
    But I will also try your suggestion of increasing virtual memory -- presently this computer has 2GB or RAM but still does sometimes freeze, especially when dealing with video material. I will let you know if there is any change after incorporating your suggestion to increase virtual memory. I may need a few days just to experiment.

    Thank you very much for this helpful advice.
    With regard to your suggestion of increasing virtual memory -- my computer uses an Intel D945GCNL Desktop motherboard. The specifications for that board say it will support up to 2GB RAM (with an operating speed of 533Mhz) and I already have the maximum amount of memory card installed. I have reset the page file size to 5GB as you suggested. This did allow me to complete and burn-to-disc the movie which had been giving me so much trouble. (The movie was of my son's wedding so I am very grateful for your help with that.) Thank you.
    However, on my next attempt to produce a 120 minute movie I encountered exactly the same problems as before - the computer woruld "freeze" when it started to write the final file at the end of the rendering process, then on about the third attempt wrote only 330Mb of the nearly 4.5Gb movie to the DVD.
    I then tried using my old Studio 9.4 software (which I still have on this computer because the 12.1 version is only an upgrade package) and everything worked as it should -- rendered the movie and wrote it to disc. The problem with Studio 9.4 is that it is no longer supported by Pinnacle Systems and is limited in its editing capabilities.
    So I suspect that the resources needed to run Studio 12.1 are more than my motherboard-microprocessor combination and operating system can handle. If this assumption is correct then I guess it means that I just have to live with the limitations.
    Or is there some way to ensure that my computer is not running other unecessary software in the background, and thus wasting memory and other resources?

    Yes, I do use Spyware Doctor. I used to use TrendMicro Internet Security but I found that it slowed my computer signficantly and I had to disable it to get some software (such as video editing and music editing) to work.
    But yes, I will try uninstalling SpywareDoctor and see how we go from there.

    Your idea of disabling (un-installing) Spyware Doctor seems to have been effective. Studio 12.1 has worked properly with the one time I have used it since disabling SpywareDoctor.
    Simple fix (perhaps?) but confusing diagnosis.
    So, thank you very much for your patient guidance through these problems.
    Is it possible to delete all those HijackThis files from this page?

    Yes, good philosphy.
    But, just for the record ... I did do some checks on CPU usage and confirmed that usage is higher and computer response is slower with Spyware Doctor running. It is possible to shut down (disable) Spyware Doctor -- with consequent improvement in computer performance -- so the antispyware program is still there on my HDD to be reactivated if needed when I am connected to the Internet or if I want to do a periodic spyware scan.

Sorry I did not understand this part of the question. Do you mean that you have captured the video from something and it does not capture completely?
2)Writing final file and it just stops working.
Did you try burning at a lower speed to see if it completes the burning process? Some burning software are terrible for burning at high speeds and Pinnacle Studio leads the bunch. So try burning at a lower speed and let me know if that solves the issue.

    No I don't think that is a problem with your computer. However this hanging and stopping the burn process sounds familiar. I think it is hogging up all of your system resources and hanging. Upgrade= System hogger. Things you can try
    1)Increase the virtual memory Right-click on My Computer->Properties->Click on the Advanced tab-> Then under Performance click on Settings(Virtual memory, Visual effects etc.,) . The performance windo will open. Click on the advanced tab and in the bottom right corner of the window click on the change button next to your page file size.
    Uncheck the box automatically manage paging file for all drives and then click on the custom size radio button and type a value that is 2.5 times the value of your RAM. For example if you have 1GB of RAM then type in 2500-2501MB and click set. Click OK and then click apply and reboot your computer. Now its like you have got 3.5GB of RAM so the programs will have more resources to work with.

    Change the size of the page file to 2.5 times the size of your RAM. For example if you have 1GB of RAM then set it to 2.5GB and click set
    2)Burn at a lowest possible speed. This will ensure that less data is transferred per second so that it can have the all the resources it needs.
    3)If the above two steps do not resolve the issue then get an additonal RAM. Most systems can have upto 4GB or RAM so check whats the MAX for your motherboard and get an additonal 1GB of RAM of same frequency(133Mhz, 333Mhz, 533Mhz are the usual frequencies)

    It is very bad that a software requires more than 2GB of RAM and 5GB of page file to burn a DVD! However there may still be a chance you can burn without purchasing pc upgrades or any additional software. There is a famous tool called trend micro(the makers of PC-Cilin antivirus) Hijack this. It can be used to create a log file of all the running processes on your system like the one below.
    You can find the download link at the same page. Download install and run the program. Get me a log file of your system and I will let you know if they are any unwanted processes running that are slowing down your system.

    Are you using spyware doctor? I recommend not using it. It used to freeze my comp when I was using it. I strongly recommend that you uninstall it and try burning again.

    Hi. I had to go somewhere urgently yesterday so couldn't reply. Anyways I suggest that you to uninstall spyware doctor and see if the performance improves. Let me know whats the CPU utilization before and after the program is uninstalled. From what I have seen almost all the processes in your system are related to installed programs and some of them can be removed from start up to improve system performance. Let me know when you are online and I will guide you with removing apps from your start up.

    Glad that it worked! A similar thing used to happen to my PC when I had it running. Anyways you can use another free Anti-spyware called "Spybot search and destroy".
    Also it is not possible to remove the hijack this log. Anyways no harm done right? No one can do anything to your system with that info. its just a list of the apps running on your system and their registry entries thats all.

I think the best option for you is to Upgrade to Pinnacle Studio 14 which is $0, or Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate, which costs $70. An upgrade is cheaper than buying the entire version which will cost you about $130. The upgrade will work with Windows 7, Windows Vista (SP2), Windows XP (SP3).

On the other hand, if a program cannot be run under Windows 7 because of compatibility issues, you can right click on the executable file that will start the application and click Properties. Select Compatibility tab and check the Windows version you know the program worked with before. This will make it run as if it was running in Windows XP. I can't make a 16 minutes movie on my Pinnacle studio ultimate 12 program. I didn't have a problem to burn a 20 seconds MPEG file.

Click on the completed project in the timeline, go up to "Edit," click on "select all" in the dropdown menu, then RIGHT click anywhere in the now-highlighted project and select "Copy."
Now go back up to "file" and click on "New Project." Your current timeline will close (don't worry. It's saved,) and a new blank timeline will open. Left click anywhere in the new timeline, then right click and select "paste."
After a terrifying period when you think nothing is happening, your entire project will suddenly appear in the new timeline.
Save it with a new name, then try rendering again.

According to Microsoft, YES IT WILL. Pinnacle Studio 12 appears to be completely compatible with Win7. Below is the link to the Microsoft page.

Can Pinnacle Studio 12 ultimate run on windows 7?

According to Microsoft, the manufacturer recommends that you upgrade your product to work with 7. Imagine that, they think you should pay the upgrade fee. Microsoft has not tested your program as yet, so this info is really not verified. I suggest that you go to pinnacle and download the latest drivers and patches (click here) and give the installation a try.

According to Pinnacle, 12 works with Vista 32 and 64 bit. It is likely 12 will run on Windows 7. The only way you will truly know is if you try it or get in touch with an actual user that tried it. Here is a link to Microsoft that will guide you on how to tweak older programs to work in 7 if you encounter trouble.

My PC is very slow since I installed Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate

Check you startup programs and eleminat those you less likely need this will free up that slowness you are experiencing,

Pinnacle 10 dvd burning

have you tried rendering as an AVI file ... then burning???
also, check the drop down tab to make sure in the "make a disc" section that
there are not 2 listings for the dvd choice ... if there are... then select the second
dvd.. and tell it to burn...
or make the AVI and use Nero 8 or 9 to make the DVD.
my version 10.8 is whacked...
upgraded to 12... it's working fine... finally.
