Question about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96

1 Answer

My microtrack has inexplicably stopped recording on the left channel. I tried other mics, including a brand new microtrack 24/96 replacement mic to no avail. Any ideas aside from opening it up and looking inside? sharmanduran@hotmail.com

Thank you, Joe. If by "the left and right input controls" you are referring to the two buttons on the front that control the recording levels, I did experiment with them and though the little arrows on the screen move when I press them, the left side still is not responding. Could this recording problem have anything to do with an old memory card? I've been using the original m-audio memory card for the last two years. Do memory cards deteriorate with age? I tried another memory card that I have used in this recorder in the past but now the recorder refuses to recognize it at all. Before I go to the expense of buying another card I'd like to know if that might be a plausible explanation for the problem.

Hello. Check the left and right input controls. It is possible that the left input control is set low and causing the problem. regards, Joe

Hi, I cannot get stereo signal from my mic. I used the recording level L/R knob correctly, but when I go to the left side, there's not signal at all. Should I use a different type of cable? Thanks,...

You mention "mic"... to do stereo you need two mics...

If you are trying to "PAN" a single mic, then you should use a WYE cable and have the single mic go to both input channels.

The mic does not record stereo anymore. when playing back a stereo works fine but when recording in stereomodus only the left channel records, the right channel seems to record silence/noise

This Mic is not a stereo Mic. If you're using a windows computer, check your sound control panel to see if the mic wasn't suddenly set to two channel device.

I plugged a mic to my dell laptop but it isnt working, do i need a sound card?

No, if you have a jack to plug the mic into you have a soundcard. However the mic is probably muted in the mixer software. Go to the control panel, left click on sounds and audio, then click on the advanced button; this should open the mixer in the play back mode, at the top left of the mixer go to options and select properties, a new page will come up with a radio button showing playback or recording, switch the radio button to the recording list and check everything in the checkboxes including the mic and press ok. A new mixer should come up with your recording deviced, from here you can set your microphone device volume.

How do I use 2 mics for the XL2 simultaneously?

Hi, on the left side of the camera you can set 'audio monitor'. Default is channel 1/2. You can choose to listen to 3/4 or 1/2 and 3/4 simultaneous.
In the menu of the cam you can set between 12 bit audio recording or 16 bit. 16 bit only records on channel 1/2 (the front mic). In 12 bit mode you can record audio on 4 channels.
hope this answers a bit of your question

AKG Perception Microphone ony recording in mono but want stereo.

I have similar problems with inputing stereo sound. How do you know your mic port on the PC is set for stereo? What kind of a cable are you using? If it is an XLR, the connection is pure mono. Maybe you need a TRS cable, which looks like a 1/4 inch jack but is really stereo. Maybe you need a stereo mini. Usually a cable mismatch is the problem. Is your phantom power supply passing stereo? All the ones I have seen are mono. You may need two. Is your sound capture set for stereo? Are the input level controls set correctly for equal volume on left or right channel? I would try the mic with a regular amplifier to insure both channels are working. Then trace the signal from mic to power supply and power supply to computer.

MicroTrack Levels are off balance

That sounds like a hardware problem requiring a service. The front-case buttons are sensitive to pressure and I suspect that they go bad if stored where something is pressing against them.

Samson co1u recording issue

you first 3 people are idiots... maybe if you had worked with the hardware you would know how the mic works because its obvious you don't. The 4th person is correct because this is exactly how i use the mic and it captures sound in stereo format beautiful when set up rite. Using it in mono, whether use keep on one channel or two drastically reduces the crisp sound that this mic can record.

It's supposed to only record on the left side. When it's in "INST/MIC" mode the left channel has your mic on it and the right channel has your instrument, so you can mix them separately. Just configure your recording software to put the left channel on one track and the right channel on another track.

Playback only on left speaker

The quick, easy solution is to change your microphone to mono recording. In the attached YouTube clip, I'll show you how to do that.

The short and simple is to go to your Mac HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup. Select your C01U USB device, and set it to 1ch 16bit. This will set the microphone to record in mono, equally over both speakers.
