Thanks for the response: The backlight went out around 3 months before the battery finally died. Thought it might have been the lower output of the old battery couldnt power the backlight. So got the new battery but the back light still did not work. guess it needs a new screen. Cant seem to find one. If you hear of one let me know. Thank you. Dan

Tapwave dropped... backlight no longer works. Checked cables, everything seems okay. Wondering if there is a fix for this problem, or if I am out of luck and need to start shopping for a new pda.

If the backlight went at the same time as you replaced the battery, check to make sure you didn't damage or loosen any cables in there.

I have an insignia tv ns-lcd42hd-09. If I have no backlights and cannot see the menu with a flashlight does it still mean the inverter is bad or is it the t-con or main board.

That brand TV will not display anything on the screen if the backlight is burned out. Depending on how much you paid for it, you might come out better just replacing it that repairing it. The backlight stretches the length of the screen and it only takes one diode to go out to cause the whole TV to go out. If you are a DIY person, know you will be dealing with 50-70 screws. NOT counting the plastic mounting screws for the front and back bezel.

The other kicker is the availability of the actual part. The LED strip used for the backlight WAS a proprietary part and is supposedly available only thru the manufacturer. However, it is possible to replace it with a modified strip from strip LED lighting, a little soldering, and a little bit of know-how. This will void the warranty, but, if it fixes your TV for actual pennies on the dollar, you cut out the middle man by doing the work yourself, you're looking at about $50 for parts.

Hope this helps. http://www.indoffofficefurniture.com/led-retrofit

LED tv backlight issue

Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

My screen for my zodiac tapwave 1 has a brown blob on it, like it was crushed. Is there an easy fix it for this?

Sounds like the LCD is broken. Tapwave has been out of business for a while now, so replacement parts aren't readily available; however, if you go on ebay and look for "Tapwave Zodiac Demo" you may find a demo unit. You can take the LCD off of this unit and replace your broken one.

Here is one listing

Hope this helps,
Bill

My 3 year old Dell Inspiron 710m screen won't light up

to see if its your backlight, shine a torch onto the screen and if all is visible then, your backlight is out.
they are not expensive but getting someone to replace it may be.

Remove any SD cards and check to make sure no buttons are stuck. Then do a function reset. This prevents system extensions from loading (you will need a soft reset after that to get back to normal operating mode). If that doesn't help, do a hard reset (this will wipe your data and you will need to restore it). If the problem comes back after you restore your data, you will need to hard reset again and restore your apps singly or a few at a time, until you locate which one is causing the problem. Or it may come back when you put your SD cards back in, in which case you may have one or more corrupted files there.
