This might be a problem with one of the hi limit thermal fuses tha detect the amount of heat passed through the system.the electric igniter could also be failing by not drawing the correct amount of voltage through to keep the gas valve open

Hi,

You need to replace the small black coils on the gas valve. The troubleshooting chart says it could also be the radiant sensor.

Does the igniter glow after the first flame goes out?

If NO, then you need to replace BOTH the parts. If YES, then replace Black Coils.

Both the parts are Cheap and easy to Replace.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Burner comes on for about 30 seconds then goes off. after a little while it lights again. then goes off again. this repeats 4 or 5 times then furnace shuts down completely. gas supply problem?

That's usually your flame sensor. If the board doesn't detect a flame after burner is running it will shut your gas valve down. You can usually fix this by cleaning the flame sensor with some extra fine steel wool.

It sounds like a plugged or restricted exhaust vent or blower wheel might not b spinning, check blower and belt:)

Burners kick on for 10 seconds then kicks off will keep repeating this

Hello, sounds like the flame sensor needs to be cleaned with steel wool. The flame sensor is a metal rod located on the opposite side of the igniter that senses the burner flame and will keep the Furnace running, what happens is the rod builds up oxidation and then cannot sense the burner flame and will shut the burners down and keep repeating. Just remove the sensor and clean with steel wool and reinstall.

Igniter goes on blower runs for 30 seconds main heater flame ignites and burns for approx 30 seconds then it shuts down for approx 10 seconds and repeats the same sequence 3 times, then shuts down...

there should be a flame detector sensor. it is in the flame. this will need to be cleaned with a wire brush or scrapped with something to get the carbon build up off of it.
you will see something that in in the flame area that is kind of charred and black with a wire coming out of it.
this is designed to tell the unit that there is a flame present and if that flame is not there after serveral attempts it will shut it down. because it there was no flame there you would get gas fumes pumped into you house.
you could change it out or usually you can just clean it and it will work fine.

hope this helps

Ignitor stops working gas shuts off within 10 seconds

The gas turns on and off repeatedly all during the drying process. You could have a weak flame sensor. Sometimes these dudes take longer to cool down and regain continuity with age. Seen it.
