Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My Whirlpool wash machine goes out of balance, I looked under the washer and found 3 nail looking parts, about 2" in length, with a flat side of the parts, I looked under the washer and it seems that those were for connecting 3 metal plates? Not sure,,,If this is the case what would be the best way to insert these 3 nail looking pieces...Also my wash basket dropped down a few inches. Please HELP Thank You

I'm fighting a problem with my machine also. Some things that has helped me thus far are:

  • This service manual will help. I found that when my machine stopped working it was in the middle of a wash cycle. After removing he clothes I also could not get it to restart with any command. The manual will tell you how to operate different functions under test mode. Once I did this to empty the tub of water then I could restart the machine at least. Still has a problem I am working on however. These machines are known to get cracks in the cone underneath the tub. The cracks caused my tub to lean off to one side and thus would run out of balance. The give away on this problem is to look and see if the tub is centered all the way around the flex gasket area around the top. Mine would touch on one side and then be tucked way under a couple of inches on the other side. Hard to spin a top when tilted to one side on its axis. I'm no washing machine tech but am a power mobility tech so do know how to trouble shoot and look for obvious problems. I have learned and lived with this machine. Fortunately I sold the machine - Unfortunately I sold it to another family member thus still working on it.

    Found rubber bushing part # 8316773 about 1 1/4"x1

Sorry, I cannot solve your problem, but I too came up with the same miscellaneous part after opening the top cover and back plate of a Calypso washer (model 110.21062.000) (ca. 2001). Cannot figure out whence it came or where it should go. Since I put things back together, the unit has sounded rough in the wash and rinse cycles. If you find a solution, please let me know._304.jpg

Kenmore series 80 washer tub sits off to the side. How do I get it straight again? I looked under the unit I didn't see any broken or missing parts. In the spin cycle spins off balanced bagging on the...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
    http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If you look at the section on "Machine Base Parts" you'll see a number of springs and vibration pads.

It's possible that one or more of the springs or pads has come loose or broken.

In order to get to them you have to remove the cabinet.

Here is a description of how to do it.

Also see the Whirlpool Service Manual for top load washers. It has a troubleshooting section that describes the reasons for excessive walking or vibration.

If my washer machien makes a noise like boom boom and moveing what do i do get a part to fix it

The correct answer will depend on exactly what your washer is doing when the Boom boom noise is heard.

I will take a guess that it is on the 'spin' cycle or 'rinse' cycle - while the bowl is spinning. The boom sound is your wash bowl (drum) hitting the rubber bumpers located on 3 metal beam like parts.

The cause is either a bad balance in the load (lots of jeans bunched up on one side of the bowl throws is out of balance and it hits the sides. Or- one of the 3 springs that hold the bowl in the center of the machine cabinet is off its fastener. You can look under the machine (lay it on its face - on a towel or rug), with no water or clothes in it..... and check to be sure all the springs and fasteners are in place.

If one is broken, pull it out and take it to an appliance parts place in your area.... and get a new one. Just install the replacement part like the other 2 assembles inside the cabinet.

Let us know this does it for you.... -Jim

My 9150 doesn't spin well and my clothes are very wet, when they come out. Then when I try to spin & drain only, it wants to run for 4 hours. Looking at the problems how good of a product did I buy.

from the description you are giving, i would guess that: 1. the "coin-catcher" ahead of the pump is plugged. 2. the tub is overloaded. 3. the loads are heavy, bulky [ blankets, jeans, towels]. when a load is too big or it is all very absorbent materials, the machine tries to balance the load before it goes into a final spin, it will not spin on high if it cannot balance - remember, ten towels or pairs of jeans soaked with water is darned heavy - mix the loads i'm familiar with this machine because i have one, i repair washers and dryers as part of my job, in my opinion, the duet is the best and most reliable washer available

    Whirlpool WTW5300 SQ Water leaking...Help!!

The water pump is the front and has probably failed.
    REMOVE POWER
To access the pump, lift the console by one of three ways.
    1. Look in the back of the console, in each corner there will be a screw, unscrew until the console can be pushed forward.
    2. The trim on either side can be pried off from the top, grasp and pull forward to expose to expose a screw.
    3. Insert a putty knife under each corner, push to release a latch. With console lifted:

    1. You will find a lid switch connector (white or gray in color). Unplug the switch from the connector.

    2. There will be two brass colored clips. Place a flat blade screwdriver straight down into the opening on top of the washer and into the groove of the clip. Push the screwdriver down and away from you and the clip will release.

    3. Open the lid of the washer and place your hand under the front rim of the opening (DO NOT grab the wash tub). Tilt and slide cabinet forward to remove.

The pump is mounted to the motor with two spring clips. Look at the face of the pump for any signs of melting or blistering. (grey bubbling)
