Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Open Question

Will not download to computer. I recently had my computer repaired because of a virus. I tried to download printer back on with instruction disk and I get a message of , communication not available. This happened once before and we searched this on the dell website. This printer number V305 comes up as a printer #926. We located a patch to download and install printer, but now that is gone. Help!!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Found on another forum. For 926 this worked great.
1. Go to Control Panel - Printers : Delete 926 printer
2. Go to Control Panel - Programs and Features : Uninstall All Dell 926 related software. There should be 3 programs. (When prompted to restart, respond to wait.
3. Rename Folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\W32x86 to W32X86OLD
4. Now restart your computer
5. Reinstall 926 Software.
This worked terrific for me.

3.Disable all the firewalls

4.Uninstall the printer driver and software, then unplug the usb cable of the printer.

6.Delete any non default items under the ff keys:

Message on screen: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware... It then cuts to startup repair and attempting repairs. Have gone through this a dozen times only to end up where I started. What do I...

I assume you've already tried pressing F8 on startup to get into the start-up options screen (from there you can attempt "Restore System to a previous date.").
If you can't get anywhere with the F8 options, try starting up your system from a Windows Install disk. (Unfortunately, few computers come with this. Some have a Restore mode using either a special startup hot key or a set of optical disks, but this usually involves formatting C: and wiping out everything before setting it back to factory original state.) Once you have the Windows Install disk going, watch for the Automatic System Repair option to come up. This is different for each version of Windows, so I can't give you more than that other than to follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: virus infections can disrupt the hardware registry and produce the symptoms you have. By now, your backup registry is corrupted (that is why the automatic repair fails). I've found the easiest virus fix for a desktop computer is to remove the hard drive and install it as a second drive in a known-good computer, then have that system scan the problem drive for virus infections and file system corruption. If you have a 2.5" - 3.5" drive adapter and can remove the drive easily, you can also use this tactic on laptop hard drives. You will probably still need to repair the operating system damage.

Whole computor is in Wingdings.

Well you made it online. The very first thing you should do is go to
Avira and download there antivir rescue system.

This is the second best anti-virus software company on the planet.
This disk will scan your pc for virus, trojan, rootkits.

Download this and burn it to a disk. Then boot from this disk just like you were going to install windows. If you can't do this or you feel that this problem in no way is a virus or other think, then use system restore. If you are running vista the use the vista disk to run system restore.

You need to install teh software from disk before connecting the printer.

If you do not have the disk you must download the software from Internet, follow instructions below,

Click here:Official Lexmark Drivers and Software

A web page will open, follow instructions, select model, select operative system etc., and click on download .
Chose to download the file in my documents when asked.
After downloading, find the file, double click on the file ,then if you get in troubles, follow the instructions below to reset and reinstall drivers:

  • Unplug printer USB.
  • Go to control panel >> installed printers in Windows and remove (delete ) any installed printer from printer list.
  • Download driver from website, or use the disk and run the install file.
  • Follow driver installation wizard.
  • Plug back printer when prompted from installation wizard.
Note:some printerdoes not work on Vista, if you do not find any driver download for Vista on your model page, that means your model is not Vista compatible.
