Re: O S disc, Toshiba L35-S1054
No unfortunately XP home and XP media edition are different but not completely. The only difference is the entertainment factor like TV control and live recording and pausing , viewing photos etc and media center is considered to be a bit more secure than XP home but i find this just a wrong perception of people as i also have XP home and also had media center, makes no difference at all regarding security but yes if u want much more features or facilities as far as entertainment is considered media center edition is far more good than XP home....... IF U INSTALL XP HOME THAT DOES NOT MEAN U INSTALLED XP MEDIA CENTER Now there are 2 ways to solve ur problem 1. Either get a NEW disc from microsoft or any computer shop for media center and then install it. OR 2. Install XP home on your system and then try to put the CD for media center , it will update XP to media center . In this way u will get the media center back and u will also not lose any previous stored data. NOTE: In both the above cases u will have to get the CD for Media center...... Wat matters is losing the data that is already stored on your system. BUT AGAIN I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND HERE IS THAT INSTALLING XP HOME WILL NOT GET BACK U TO MEDIA CENTER AS THEY ARE DIFFERENT BUT IT MAKES NOT DIFFERENCE WHETHER IT IS XP HOME OR MEDIA CENTER AS ONLY DIFFERENCE IS ENTERTAINMENT>>> IN THE WORLD THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE USING XP HOME THAN MEDIA CENTER>>>

You need to get disk for Vista from anyone and then use your windows product key mentioned on the sticker on back of your Toshiba Laptop to install Vista again on your computer. But as you had already formatted it so all data is lost now.
Well, win xp is absolutly more fun as OS then win 2000:)
To upgrade to win xp will be no problem since Toshiba have drivers for ir. To upgrade to VISTA will...or can give you problem since there arent any drivers for that Tecra S1.

For some models, however -- including those listed above -- booting from the Recovery disc requires pressing the F12 key, rather than the 'C' key. The instructions below are correct for these models. CAUTION: The Recovery process reformats the computer's hard disk drive, which completely erases its contents -- including all applications, all documents, and all other data stored on the drive. Be sure to back up your documents and other data before following the instructions below. Follow these steps to erase the current contents of the hard disk drive and to re-install all of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured: 1. With the computer on, insert the first Recovery disc into the optical drive. 2. Shut down the computer (click the Start button, click Shut Down, select Shut Down, click OK). 3. Press the computer's power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press and hold the F12 key. Release the F12 key when the menu of boot options appears. 4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the CD/DVD option. Press the Enter key to select it. The computer will restart, and will boot from the Recovery disc. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen to start the Recovery process. CAUTION: Once the Recovery process has begun, do not interrupt it.
The computer's hard drive will be formatted, erasing its contents. All of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured will then be re-installed. 6. Once the Recovery process is complete, remove the Recovery disc, and press any key to restart the computer. - mc/wa
If you don't have the original drivers; check in toshiba.com or download.com.
About the upgrade: check your manual to know with type of memory your laptop needs (yours is DDR2) , after that you can put any size from 512MB an up. Your Laptop can holds only 2 simms, so try to get the max of memory you want.
