While the set is playing tap or slap the side of the cabinet, to see if the picture flickers or goes off. (This is a deep dark secret technique of expert technicians :) )
If it does then you have an intermittent connection in the electronics, which will have to be repaired at a service shop.

Turn off fpa lock without remote

Install an IR Remote App in android phone. The app link below worked for me to remove the fpa lock on. Configure the App for your RCA TV. Set TV as Device type, RCA as the brand. and choose the model (e.g., TV 20 F420T) also, select the Alternate IR Driver.

All the options of the command may appear in a list form. Close that and an actual remote with buttons should appear.

Then Power your tv will turn ON. Press the Menu. Pressing the Channel Down/Up Button to navigate to Preferences. Press OK button on the screen.. Then Navigate to FPA Lock. Press OK again. THis will turn the FPA Lock to Off.

Then you could use your on-TV buttons ZappIR Universal IR Remote Android Apps on Google Play

Use the remote control to unlock the front panel controls by selecting the Lock Fr. Panel in the PARENTAL CONTROL menu and press OK (box won't have check mark).• Unplug the TV for two minutes and then plug it back in. Turn the TV on and try again.TV turns off unexpectedly • Sleep timer might have been activated. Go to page 24 for instructions.• KidPass might have been activated. Go to page 21 for instructions.• Wake-Up timer turned on the TV and no remote or front panel buttons were pressed for two hours.• Electronic protection circuit may have been activated because of a power surge. Wait 30 seconds and then
turn on again. If this happens frequently, the voltage in your house may be abnormally high or low.
• Unplug TV. Wait five minutes. Plug it in again.

Need codes to control symphonic 27" tv using rca universal remote control type rcr312w

  1. These instructions come from the RCA website. The crucial step is to keep pressing the reverse button.
  2. Turn on the component (the tv, dvd, etc).
  3. Hold the TV (or DVD) button and the on/off button at the same time. It will stay lit.
  4. Press the play button every five seconds until the component turns off.
    • Each time the Play button is pressed, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks ten times and a block of 10 codes is sent to your component. This process continues until all the codes in the Code Lists have been searched. If the component has not turned off after all codes have been searched, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks four times, turns off, and the Auto Code Search Entry method is exited.
  5. When the component turns off, press and release the REVERSE button, then wait two seconds to see if the component turns on again.
  6. If the component does not respond, continue to press the REVERSE button EVERY TWO SECONDS UNTIL THE COMPONENT TURNS ON again. This will isolate the correct code in the last block of codes sent. Each time the REVERSE button is pressed, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks.
    • If the REVERSE button is accidentally pressed after the component responds, press and release the FORWARD button. Wait two seconds to see if the component turns off again.
  7. To save the new code, press and release the STOP button.
  8. The illuminated ON-OFF button turns off. You must press the STOP button to save the code.
Tips
  • Turn on TV
  • Hold in the TV button and the ON/OFF button until the ON/OFF button stays lit
  • Press the PLAY button every 5 seconds until the device turns off
  • Press the REVERSE button every 2 seconds until the device turns on
  • Press the STOP button to lock in the code...the remote should work now.
  • Important to press reverse button every 2 seconds, not just once.
Good Luck!!

CHANGING CHANNELS ALL THE TIME

I have seen some RCA TV's with this problem and it has usually been a switch going bad on the keypad of the tv. This can be confirmed by disconnecting the plug from the control panel to the main chassis. If you are lucky, and the ir rcvr for the remote is not on the control board, you can still control tv with the remote.Good luck.
