Printer problem the printer is saying that it is offline and telling me to turn it off and unplug the electrical cable and the USB cable and then plug them back in after turning off the printer. My printer wont work. Basically it is telling me to unplug the USB cable, the electrical chord turn the printer off and then turn it back on again and plug everything in again and then it should work but I have tried this a few times including using a different USB cable. How do i fix this. Could this be a printer spooler problem? If so how would you start the printer spooler in Windows XP? Thanks

Try repeating the same process again, but using a new USB cable.
Also, if you are using Windows operating system, make sure the Printer Spooler service is started.

This is actually a fairly common problem and many of these printers fail around a year old. I would consider purchasing a replacement. You do have the option of starting a service request at this link:

If you have any other questions please let me know.
    Thank you,

My hp j4680 says offline, how do I get back on

If you are connected via USB cable, you will want to follow these steps.

1. Clear the print queue from the computer.
2. Shut down the computer.
3. Power off the printer.
4. Unplug the USB cable from both the computer and the printer.
5. Make sure there are no foreign objects in the printer.
6. Reconnect the USB cable.
7. Turn on the printer and the computer.

The "offline" message should now be cleared.

My computer says that the printer is offline, how do I get it online?

What is saying it is offline? If you go to the printers/printers and faxes folder in control panel it says that? Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in? Is the printer on? If you need to delete/uninstall the printer from that folder and install the latest drivers from this link and install them:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=446154&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=446153&taskId=135
After going to the page select your operating system.

How do I get my hp photosmart 7660 back on line?

Power off the printer and then unplug the printers USB cable from the PC. Now turn on the printer and plug the USB cable back into your PC. This should correct the issue. You can also go to "Control Panel" and select "Printers and Faxes". Then right click on your printers icon and see if it says that the printer is offline.

Hope this helps, best of luck..

I have a cannon inkjet mp560. when ever I try to print it says "printer is offline" or "printer is not responding. I've tried unplugging the usb cord and turned it off and restarted it, but it will not...

When you double click the Printer and Faxes icon in the Control Panel you will see the printer that your computer is currently using. See.... if the printer image is clear it is online and ready to use, if its blurred then its in offline mode and cannot be use.

To correct offline printer.. some possible reasons is on the usb cable.. check if there is no open wire along the cable...Inserting the USB connector on the other usb slot of the cpu sometimes work just wait first until it is read.

If the printer is still blurred and offline after checking the usb connection, the 2nd thing to do is check the properties of the printer if it is set to offline mode. how? Double click your printer icon. It will display the print jobs window. Click on the Printer tab and uncheck on the "Use printer Offline". Cancel all pending print jobs, close the printer window and try again to print.

Unable to print from computer, nothing happens when i click print, yet printer will print from scanner. it is a h.p.psc1300 all in one.when i go into the printer on computer it says printer offline error...

I'm assuming it's USB and it got unplugged or turned off recently. Unplug the printer's USB cable for a bit (20 seconds), then plug it back in. Most likely the computer will recognize the new hardware and begin the software install that's needed. When you look at Printer on the computer again, you'll probably see a new one, but it'll show ONLINE. Make this one your default and delete the one that shows OFFLINE

I've had this happen to me several times and the above solution works for me. Good luck.

Mfc7340 will not print--it was working just fine and then it errors out. Uninstalled and reinstalled and it shows ready but errors out

Hello ,

First, please make sure there is no error message displayed on the LCD screen of the printer

Now we will check the status of your printer in the printers menu in the control panel.
The printer’s status should be set to “ready”
If the printer is “paused” simply clear the print queue, right click on the printer and select “resume printing”.

If the printer says “offline”, follow these steps.
  1. Clear the printer queue
  2. Shut down the computer
  3. Unplug the USB cable from your computer and your printer
  4. Unplug the power cable from the printer and wait 15 seconds
  5. Plug the USB cable back into the printer and the computer.
  6. Plug the printer’s power cable back in.
  7. Turn your computer back on.

Your printer status should be back to ready now and you are able to print.

Thank you,

I have just installed a refilled black ink cartridge (never given problems before)and printer green light flashing, won't print anything including test page and can't delete it (says it is offline) -...

Try turning both your pc and your printer off. then turn them on again. try taking out the black cartridge and try printing with the color one. if it prints, the black cartridge is the problem. If it still says "offline", and therefore you can not do anything, try replacing the usb cable. if that doesn't help, you can remove your printer's installation from your pc, and then add it again, that usually helps.

My HP Officejet J4540 All-in-one printer is showing Offline. I have checked all connections and all appears ok. Could you tell me how to change that status to Ready?

It shows offline if the printer is not communicating. Initially open printers folder and right click the printer icon and check if "use offline" option is not ticked.if its ticked then un-tick it. if everything looks fine then:
1)first try unplugging printer from main power cord for a minute and then plug back in and check after refreshing if it becomes ready.
2)other thing to do is to remove the usb cable from behind the printer and plug back in after 45 seconds.
3)it is also quite possible that the usb port or cable might have gone faulty.in that case try replacing usb cable and check.
thanks ,keep updated and accept the solution.

The lights are on but no one in!

Try to remove the USBA cable while it is on, and the remove the plug cable for electricity. Ater 1 minute plug-in the electrical cable and turn on the printer and after that return the usb cable on the usb port. and see what will happen.
