My SurePower MD-350WPS power supply falled from

My SurePower MD-350WPS power supply worked at once.When i turn off it and replaced processor in motherboard, it falled from 6-8 inch height and don't work now. I checked switches, saw inside. All is OK, but it doesn't work. What I can do else?

There is a fuse inside the power supply see if that has broken as they are verry delicate

What is happening?
Primer;
You press the Power On button. This plastic button in turn, presses against the Power On switch. A Momentary Contact Switch.

The brief closing of the Power On switch, closes the Soft Power On circuit, in the Power Supply.
The Power Supply turns on.

The first chipset to receive power is the BIOS chipset. The BIOS program starts.

BIOS looks to see what devices are connected, does a Ram Memory count, TURNS the Processor on, and hands the computer over to the Operating System.
(Windows XP, and Windows 7, are two examples of an O/S)

When BIOS goes to turn the Processor on, the Power Supply 'falls flat on it's face'.

Has to enough power to light a few little LED lights, and maybe spin a fan, or two, but NOT enough power for the Processor.

The monitor is stating No Signal, because there is no video signal coming from the computer. This is because the computer is not working, because of that bad Power Supply.

90 percent of desktop computer failure, cab be attributed to;

A) The computer is dirty inside, to include the Power Supply.

B) The Power Supply is bad

Suggest you start with cleaning the inside of the computer out, but suspect the real problem is the Power Supply.

Why?

Because the CD-ROM is not working.

Primer:

Your Power Supply converts your household/business AC electricity, into 3 low main DC Voltages.

Depending on your country;
USA = 120 Volts AC
Europe = 220 Volts AC
Australia = 220 Volts AC
Japan = 100 Volts AC

This is converted into 3 low DC Voltages for the computer;

A) 3.3 Volts (DC)
B) 5 Volts (DC)
C) 12 Volts DC

Each of the above is a voltage power rail.
The amperage for each power rail is stated on a label, on the Power Supply.

Voltage times Amperage = Wattage

Again, Voltage x Amperage = Wattage

All of the amperage of the voltage power rails are combined, (Added together), to equal the maximum Wattage, the Power Supply will deliver.
This should be stated on the Power Supply label also.

Primer over.

Your Power Supply provides enough power to turn the Processor on, then falls to it's knees. Doesn't have enough power to keep the Processor on.

[ A typical CD/DVD drive requires 15 Watts of power. It isn't there when all of the other hardware needs power first ]

Suggest you find a Power Supply that is KNOWN to be good, and COMPATIBLE, for a test unit.

Or you can test the 3 main voltage's coming out of the Power Supply, with a Multimeter set to DC Voltage.

Or you can just replace the Power Supply.

I would prefer you test with another unit, or test the voltages, before you spend your hard earned money.
It's up to you.

Diagnose the problem first. I could be wrong with the above, but if you diagnose using a test unit, or test the voltages, we will know whether the Power Supply is the problem.

Always start with the power First.

Perhaps there is an unused computer you may have access to, and can borrow it's Power Supply for a test unit. Has to be KNOWN to be good, and has to be COMPATIBLE.

What is Compatible? Means it has to have at least the minimum power cables, and the Power Supply must fit in the computer case.

(It is an ATX power supply)

RE ASUS P5S800-VM Motherboard.. system will not power up.. processor heatsink fan does not power up ... but ... removing processor and pressing power switch fan does work.. what is the problem??

[There are three main power rails in the SMPS for your desktop computer.
A) The 3.3 Volt power rail
B) The 5 Volt power rail
C) The 12 Volt power rail ]

Just depends on what Processor it.

Remove the Processor, and you will have power to light LED lights, and spin fans.
Of course without a Processor operating, you have No computer.

Replace the Power Supply.

Have a e machine fan runs but connect monitor to another computer it works. smell a burning smell when turn on pc. Got it to come up once by unplug power hold on button 45 seconds plug in and turn on came...


The smell is the Power Supply.

Enough power to light LED lights, and apparently spin fans, but Not enough to turn the Processor on.

Watts = Voltage times Amperage.
One measurement used for measuring the maximum available power output, of a desktop Power Supply, (SMPS. Switched-Mode Power Supply), is to state the Maximum Wattage available.

Typical maximum Wattage available for a typical eMachines Power Supply, usually averages from 150 to 300Watts.

1) ALL of the LED lights on at one time, will use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

3) A typical Processor can use 51 to 125 Watts of power.
Depends on what Processor it is.

(Note* Intel Pentium II processors use less than 51 Watts)

Solution is to replace the Power Supply.
This isn't as hard as it 'sounds', if you have never performed this procedure before.

The controller will not turn on. Green light on back comes on but when we turn on the unit, the fan starts briefly and then the power cuts off.

The LED lights receive power, so do the fans, and the Harddrive. When it's time for the Processor to kick on, there isn't enough power, and the Power Supply 'falls to it's knees'.

Replace the Power Supply.
It's just one of the basic ATX power supply's that are readily available in a multitude of places.
The Wattage is 300 Watts.

The ATX form factor for this power supply, (Size and shape), is approximately 6 inches Long, 6 inches Wide, and 3-1/2 inches Tall.

Hi Kindly let me know how many times the red light blinks
Condition Code Service Actions Processor thermal protection activated. Power LED blinks red twice, once a second, followed by a two second pause.
  1. Make sure the computer air vents are not blocked and that the cooling fan is running.
  2. Open the hood, press the power button, and see if the processor fan spins. If the fan is not spinning, make sure the fan cable is plugged into the cable header on the system board, and that the fan is properly installed and seated.
  3. If the fan is plugged in and seated properly, but is still not spinning, replace the processor fan.
  4. Reseat the processor heatsink and make sure the fan assembly is attached to the heatsink properly.
Processor is not installed. Power LED blinks red three times, once a second, followed by a two second pause.
NOTE: This condition indicates a missing or improperly installed processor, not a defective one.

Make sure there is a processor in the system. Reseat the processor and verify that it is installed properly. Power failure (power supply is overloaded) Power LED blinks red four times, once a second, followed by a two second pause.
  1. Check the voltage selector, located on the rear of the power supply, is set to the correct voltage (the correct setting depends on the region).
  2. Open the hood and make sure the 4-wire power supply cable is fully connected to the power connector on the system board.
  3. Check if a device is causing the problem by removing all attached devices (such as disk drives and expansion cards), then power on the system. If the system enters POST, power off and replace one device at a time, repeating the procedure until the system power failure reoccurs. Replace the device that caused the failure, then replace each of the other devices and confirm that they are functioning properly.
  4. If you cannot isolate the failure to a specific device in the previous step, replace the power supply. **
  5. Replace the system board.*

  1. Reseat the graphics card and then power on the system.
  2. Replace the graphics card.

For systems with integrated (on-board) graphics, replace the system board. PCA (system board) failure. ROM detected failure prior to video. Power LED blinks red seven times, once a second, followed by a two second pause, and seven simultaneous beeps are sounded. Replace the system board. Invalid ROM based on bad checksum Power LED blinks red eight times, once a second, followed by a two second pause, and eight simultaneous beeps are sounded.
  1. Reflash the ROM using a ROMPaq diskette.
  2. Replace the system board.*
System does not power on. No beeps or blinks since the system is not functioning. Press and hold the power button for less than four seconds. Perform the following steps depending on whether the hard drive LED turns green.

If the hard drive LED turns green, then:

  1. Make sure the voltage selector (which is located on the back of the power supply) is set to the correct voltage for your region.
  2. Remove the expansion cards one at a time until the 3.3V auxiliary light on the system board turns on. If removing a card turns the light on, replace the card and then see if the system works.
  3. Replace the system board.*


If the hard drive LED does not turn green, then:

  1. Make sure the computer is plugged into a functioning AC power outlet.
  2. Open the hood and make sure the power button is securely fastened in the power harness and that the harness is connected properly to the power connector on the system board. In other words, make sure that the power button is making contact with the power circuit.
  3. Make sure the power supply cables are connected properly to the power connectors on the system board.
  4. Check to see if the 3.3V auxiliary light on the system board is not turned on, replace the power supply. **
  5. Replace the system board.*

first remove all the dust from smps then check power cord output by multimeter whether right or not ok then open and you will find one fuse there check it without supply if open then replace it if not then check whether a.c. supply reaches or not if present then check the thermister resistance it should be low also check the dry solder if present then remove it please check dc supply at primary filter (big cylendrical capacitor) if not present then 4 bridge rectifier diodes may faulty replace it

Power Supply Cables


The hard drive and CDROM connect to the large flat four pin cables [there are several.] The floppy[s] connect to the tiny four pin cable that is on the same line as one or more larger four pin cables...

There is no order, just pick them in a way that they all reach without strain.

Surepower 430w power supply - fried my motherboard need help


Power supply went bad (6.5v on the 5v rail) and fried my motherboard. I read where Mad Dog, Inc was terrible at returns and replacements and the BBB rated them as one of the worst. I threw up my hands and just ordered a new one from a different Mfg.
