  • Open the back cover.
  • Pull the flap down that hides the orange roller on the fuser (be careful: it's hot)
  • Locate the inner flap that runs from the centre to the right hand side.
  • 3/4 along the right hand side, there is a tiny little perpendicular appendage on this bar that should sit in a slot. Locate it properly and the error will go away. You can go that by slightly bending the slot if fits into on the inner flap. The appendage can get jossled out of the slot when one is removing jambed paper.

    Daniel,
You should go and train the Brother technicians. They wanted me to take my printer to a repair shop. Your solution worked like a champ. Thanks.

Daniel you have been most helpful i have been going crazy for the last 3 days trying to figure out the problem ..... thanks i have solved my problem

Solution by danielwdc worked perfect. There is a long appendage and a short appendage actually and they are connected to the same horizontal member, the horizontal member or bar located between posts on the inner flap, any movement on the long arm creates an equal angular movement on the short arm. The short arm had popped out and I relocated it in its slot, the slot in turn being in the inner flap.

Walla!!! Thanks Dan. After a half day working on this problem and working with customer service I was advised that the printer needed to be taken to a customer service center. I decided enough was enough and purchased a new printer this morning. After reading this post I was able to solve the problem in about a minute. I guess I will try to repackage the new machine and make a return. Thanks again.

Perfect!!! Thank you so much! This printer was actually put out to be recycled because of that little do-flicky you just helped me fix.

Thank you Daniel - it worked for me!
I just spoke with a Brother Customer Service Rep. and he did not mention this potential fix. He ended up recommending a local service center, but suggested that it might be less expensive to purchase a new pinter instead.

Note to others: the tiny perpendicular appendage is on the (this thin black plastic)flap that you pull down to expose the orange roller. There was a separate black piece on the flap that was slightly bent & "jossled out of the slot" as Daniel mentions.

I hope this works for you as Daniel's advice above just saved me about $170 on a new printer - Thank you!

Ha! I should have checked this site earlier. After spending most of a day trying to figure out how to solve the door open issue and working with Customer Service who suggested that I would need to take the printer to the service center I decided to get a new machine. Found the post a few minutes ago and walla!!! I think I will repackage the machine and try to return it. Thanks Dan.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My Brother DCP 7020 won't stop flashing close back door

There's a micro-switch that "trips" when the door is opened/closed. It's not sending a "closed" signal to the printer. Clean the switch, with a blast of compressed air. Check that a small "finger" is going-in to the slot, to "trip" the sensor, as the door is closing.

Back cover error on LCD won't go away

This is most likely caused by the back cover switch. It is either broken or the lever on the back cover is broken off.
