Sometimes the drivers can be corrupted check the device manager and make sure that there are no conflicts there
then try rolling back drivers for the sound as sometimes the wrong drivers can be installed through windows update
also check that it isnt the speakers on laptop by plugging in headset or external speakers and test the sound
