Hello, Rick.

You need to clean the printhead:

Plug the power cord while holding Menu to get in maintenance

Press 76. 4. black start

Or, go to your printer file and click Printer Preferences - Advanced and you will see nozzle check. When it finishes it will ask if you want to clean the head - click Yes

Hope this helps.

No problem - it's always best to give as much info as possible - helps us to help you.

To remove and soak the printheads is a somewhat daunting task - near disassembling of the printer.

Open the lid as if to replace ink
    Unclip the bottom
of the lid leg and swing open. Leave the ink in
    Remove 4 screws and remove
    plastic clips to wires.
Disconnect the wires. There are 4 or 5 in total.
Carefully unhook the lid from the main unit.

    After separating the
    2 parts:

Unclip the plastic cover on the head
Remove print head cable wire from
    head
Unclip the silver clip that holds the ink hoses
Undo top (in relation to head),
slide the bar, and carefully remove head.
Lift from the no bar side first.
    Soak
under very warm water for a few minutes to remove the ink from the
    chambers.
    Repeat several times.

    If you
removed the ink tanks.. you now have a mess on the bottom of your printer. Clean
    that before reassembly.

    Now... reassemble.

    Reverse all the above steps.

    Again, hope this helps.

Hello

Well, have you had a look at the printhead itself? This is the unit in which the cartridges are situated. Errors like this is usually resolved by cleaning the printhead, because it is clogged.

Let me know if you would like to try this.

Kind regards
Andrea

OK, but have you tried taking out the printhead and letting the tip souk?

Let me know, because this is most likely a printhead problem, bacause all the colours work as you said.

    Let me know.

    Kind regards

How to change an ink cartridge on the Brother MFC-240C

The Brother MFC-240C uses an individual cartridge for each color (black, yellow, cyan, and magenta). When one of the colors is out of ink, the printer will tell you to replace the ink cartridge. To replace a cartridge, follow the steps below.

All four cartridges are located on the right front side of the printer, behind a cover. Pull the cover forward from the side, where there is a slight cutout for you to grab. When the cover falls forward, you'll see the ink cartridge holders.

For whichever ink cartridge you are replacing, push down on the purple handle for that color. The ink cartridge holder will open and fall forward, revealing the ink cartridge itself. Push down on the cartridge holder and the cartridge should pop toward you a little bit. Grasp the cartridge and remove it.

Open the new cartridge and remove it from its wrapper. Discard the yellow cover, unless you plan to use it for the old cartridge.

Insert the new cartridge into the correct slot (from left to right: black, yellow, cyan, magenta) so that the word "brother" is right-side up and located toward the top of the cartridge. Once it is most of the way in, push the ink cartridge holder up by the purple handle until it snaps into place. Then close the ink cartridge cover.

If you were out of ink, the machine should recognize the new cartridge and perform its calibration. If it doesn't automatically recognize it, it will ask if you have changed one or more of the cartridges. Press "1" for Yes.

Once you have printed a test page with all four colors to verify that everything is working, either discard the old cartridge in the trash or save it to recycle. But don't get rid of it until you are sure the new cartridge is recognized and working.

The black ink is not working. Whenever i try to print a document.

Check Whether the Black Ink cartridge is placed correctly. Try cleaning the cartridge strip. Check again, if the problem exists, try calling the service provider.

Black ink cartridges is full no ink reaching the print head the 3 colors are working fine???

First make sure you are placing the right
color cartridge into the right slot.
Most Printers are touchy about the
installation of ink cartridges. If the
instructions say to press the cartridge
into the slot until you hear a loud click,
that's what they mean. If at first you
don't succeed, remove the cartridge and
reinsert it into the slot again and press
on it hard till it clicks.
Then your printer should work properly.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

The other coloring ink work fine except for the black ink. I use the transferable with syringe on it 's carthridge once ;can this clogged the tip end?

Hi,

Yes clogging can be one of the reason here. You can check this as follows: gently blot the print head on a damp tissue. A good cartridge will leave a full dark band of ink. Your cartridge will likely leave a weak smudge of ink, with perhaps none if you repeat. BTW, on your printer a remanufactured cartridge would show as full even if it is empty. The printer will assume any cartridge it does not recognize must be a new (full) cartridge. Only if after cleaning the head it does not work then please replace the cartridge. Please let me know if this does not help else please accept it.

Thank You for contacting Fixya.com

I have a Brother MFC 240C printer that will not print black ink. I just changed all the cartridges. All the other cartridges print. I ran the clean cycle many times. No error messages just blank paper.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck
RK

Wont copy in black because color cartridges are empty

Hi,

I'm sure you're using the Blue button to make the copy as it should do B/W copies only.
Double-check that black cartridge is not empty.

If the printer was connected to computer then we could have used diagnostics software.

So we start with a workaround.
Check if its display menu has any option of Ink cartridge level reset or something like that. If it has then do the reset.

If there is no such Menu option, the while the printer is On, open the compartment of printer cartridges and take out the 4 cartridges
and put it back.
Does any option in display Menu comes asking if cartridges are replaced? answer yes if it asks.

Now try to do a copy.

Hope this helps.
If it doesn't work then a question, how many days before the printer was last used?

Mfc-240c reading offline and empty black

Regarding your problem: If one of the color ink cartidges is out of ink, the MFC 240C printer will not operate when you only install a black ink cartidge. It requires that all four catridges have ink available in them for it to function. When you examine a cartridge it may appear that it has a little ink in it when you get message that the cartridges needs to be replaced because a little ink remains to prevent the print head from drying out. Have you tried replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one. The new one you installed could have a defect.
