Is this the original remote control? if so have you tried another remote like a unversal type, they are cheaper than replacing the original one, GE is a good choice, less than $15.00 USD

My philips srp5107wm/17 only changes the volume on my tv no matter what device i have it set on

The Philips remote is set to "push trough" the volume/mute to the TV for devices that typically don't have a volume function. Older versions of Philips remote used to allow you to select the device to push volume to, but for some reason this is no longer available (or at least I haven't found out how to). So here is the solution I used.

Teach (learning function) the remote to use whatever device you like for volume/mute.

1, Press the button for the device you would like to change
2. Hold down "learn" and the button you want to teach ex. "volume up" until the red light comes on
3. Place the original remote of the device you would like to change the volume on 5-10 cm away from your Philips remote and press "volume up" for this example
4. Repeat these steps for the "volume down" and "mute" buttons
5. Repeat these steps for other devices you would like to "push through" volume/mute to a device other than TV

Hope this helps others. I did find that some devices like SAT may not allow you to change the volume/mute, but otherwise this workaround does the trick.

We have a DVR hooked up to our 1989-99 Mitsubishi TV (floor model) still in amazing working condition. The remote control for that TV never allowed us to put the TV on mute. If the mute botton was...

Well, without knowing the exact model of tv and remote, I can just give my best guess.
Try using the volume up/down on the TV and / or the remote.
On the TV, try pressing both the volume up and down at the same time.
Stick the remote right in the face of the TV (direct in front of the remote sensor) and hit the mute button.
Try tapping the mute button in very short single bursts rather than pressing it for a half second like you would any other button.
If any of those work, please come back and reply with the model of the TV and remote, because someone somewhere probably has the same issue and would love to have it solved!

Try replace the batteries with fresh ones and installed correctly, check to see that the LED lights up when you press a button, and that nothing is blocking the signal IR path to the sensor on the TV,and that your not to far away from TV.....hope this was helpful....

We have a 40" Widescreen LCD television which the remote will not turn on the TV. We have changed batteries. We have trn on TVfrom the set

You may have a bad remote, or the sensor on the tv went bad. You can goto Radio Shack, They have a remote tester card. Or you can even buy one there. About $4-5. That is your best bet for now. If it showes that your remote works, then it is your IR sensor board on your tv. Hope this helps. Todd

Programming Harmony 880 Remote to Mute with CC on Sony Bravia KDL-40W4100

Do you use a Home Theater receiver along with your televison?  Are other components, such as a DVD player, VCR, Blu-ray player, etc. connected?
If so, it's possible that the Mute function on your remote is muting the sound from your receiver, and not the TV itself.
If that's the case, you'll need to look at the details of the "default" buttons for your activities, and see whether the Mute function is associated with your TV or your receiver.  If it's set for the receiver, you need to change it to be associated with the TV.
