I request you to provide complete detailed infomation on what sound card do you have and have you installed the drivers for the sound card and the operating system, however I will provide you few answers to your question.
Press and hold windows key on the key and press R to open run box, in the run box type dxdiag and click on sound tab to check whether the sound drivers installed or not.
Check the mute settings on the computer at the right hand corner you will see a speaker icon click on the icon to check mute settings.
