Question about Canon ZR700 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Wanting to transfer video to computer. camera is plugged into the computer via firewire, nothing's happening. i have a macbook pro running on snow leopard. the only way i was able to detect the camera was through iMovie. I was able to import the video from the camera, but of course the digital copy was horrible, choppy, and had time gaps. i just need to convert the video to a digital file...the manual says there should be an automatic software installed on the computer that will work with the camera, but i've gone through all the applications i could think and it's not working. please help!

As a matter of fact you can capture digital video(HD) using imovie provided you do it correctly. Refer to the PDF below(completely) and try capturing again. You should have no problems

Let me know if it worked,

The interface of Imovie has not changed much. I know that the current version is 8 but just wanted to make sure you have got the basics right.

Pentax optio w80 driver

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Macbook pro doesnt recognize the panosonic pv-gs9 when connected with firewire

I take it that your macbook pro has imovie on it. If you open up imovie and plug in your camcorder it should recognise the camcorder and give you access to putting the movie onto your mac. Have a look at http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/ it should help.

I want to retrieve data from a Powerbook 3400c via ethernet. I have a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and an iMac running OS10.4

I think the 3400c has a Firewire port, which would allow it to startup in "target disk mode" where it would be just like an external hard drive. That is, hold T at startup to get TDM. I have a Pismo with Firewire but I think the color 3400 is older.
With MacBooks and OS10.5 or later (you are at 10.6) you can do this with USB, also. So it might use the MacBook as the external drive of the PowerBook to transfer files in Finder.
Otherwise, you can turn on AppleShare on both and use Ethernet to transfer files slower.

Macbook not recognizing camcorder

I had this problem when first plugging in my Canon zr80 to my Mac. What I did first was (if you have it) open up the program Imovie in you're applications menu. Then plug the firewire cable into both the camera and computer. Turn the camcorder on and set it to play(VCR). Once this happens you should see a "DV in" on the camcorders screen, followed by a blue window on you're computer. The rest should be easy.

If your cam has a firewire connection, you could plug it into the macbook and use iMovie to transfer the videos over. You can also get an external DVD drive to put those tiny DVDs into to transfer it over.
