Is this a new laptop? if not it may be that the fan needs a clean and new thermal compound needs to put on the cpu. if it within warranty i would contact compaq. You can do it yourself if you know what your doing but if you don@t then please don't try it as involves know how and if you mess it up you could have a dead laptop @ the end.

Computer fan turns on every 2 minutes and runs for 30 sec.

Does your computer seem to be running hot? If not maybe that's all the fan needs to run to do its job. The only thing you could try is to replace the fan.

Coolant fan continues to run while van is off......

most modern vehicles have fans that can run for 5-10 minutes after the ignition has been turned off if the engine is hot.
if the fan runs for more than 15-20 minutes there may be a problem with the temperature sensor for the fan.
this would normally be located on the side of the radiator and is fairly easy to change.

if you need more detailed instructions on changing this then please feel free to ask, but if the fan turns itself off within 10-15 minutes then there is probably nothing to worry about.

Unit gets very hot within minutes of turning on and slows graphics down to a crawl or even crashes the machine.

The cpu processor is getting to hot, check to make sure the cpu fan is working properly, if it is then the laptop must be taken apart. Chances are it is dirty and needs cleaning, the heat sink should be removed from the cpu for cleaning out the old conductive thermal grease and new applied. If the cpu fan is not functioning it must be replaced.

I have an Acer Aspire 9500 and lately it has started to turn off after about 30 min. Any idea what might be the problem?

Most likely, either bad fan(s) or a bad power supply and low battery.

Does the bottom get really hot? After 10 minutes, do you feel hot air blowing out of it anywhere? Do you hear a whizzing fan sound? You may be able to simply blow the dust out, do NOT use canned air, just blow in puffs like you were trying to blow out a match. You may need new fans.

Let it stay turned off but plugged in overnight. Does it last longer
than 30 minutes in the morning? That could indicate a weak power supply that the battery is making up for...till the battery runs out.

My Toshiba P35-S611 shuts down without warning a short time (2 min-45 min) after it boots up. The battery isn't hot but the heat dissipation fins in the back are very hot.

Indications of laptop overheating problem:
  1. The keyboard and the bottom of your laptop are very hot when the laptop is working.
  2. The CPU fans are working all the time at maximum rotation speed and operate much louder than before.
  3. The laptop suddenly shuts down by itself without warning. When it just started, the laptop was shutting down after 1-2 hours and how it shuts down after 5-10 minutes of operation.
  4. The laptop works fine when it runs idle, but shuts down as soon as you start using any memory demanding applications (DVD player, image editing software, video editing software, etc.).

Solution:
If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged.
  1. Open the laptop case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes (for example Toshiba Satellite A70/A75) you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
  2. Carefully disconnect the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to replace the fan.
  3. Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
  4. I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

1997 dodge neon is running hot

What is the mileage? Check the reservoir for coolant, when the engine is COLD,... I repeat COLD, check the radiator for fluid. If fluid is present, check to see if your fans are working properly, turn your AC on and your fans in front of your motor should kick in within minutes.

If you have coolant in the reservoir and radiator (suspect a new thermostat, replacing the radiator will benefit greatly too)

If your fans do not turn on within minutes, replace your radiator fan relay.

Display and Boot problem with HP Pavilion DV2125NR

It is normal for the bottom to get hot. The fan should keep it cool enough to run, but it sounds like perhaps your fan is not working very well anymore and should be replaced.

Does the computer act up at all when cool? If not, the first thing I would try is replacing the fan and examining the fan and heatsink assembly for proper installation, perhaps replace the heatsink compound with some Arctic Silver while you have it open.

I have 2005 yamaha r6 overheating

Check your collant level and if it is full run the bike for 10-15 minutes at idle and see if the fan turnes on. If it does not then either your fan is burned out or you need a temp. control sensor for your fan. To test the fan connect 12 volts DC the the fan plug (check polarity) and it should run and if it does then you need a fan control sensor. If the fan runs as it should, start the process over but with the filler cap off the coolant resivoir. Run the bike again but take a temp reading from the coolant. If it is within manufactures specs, then the thermostat is working. If is is too hot, replace the t-stat.

Boggs down after 2-3 minutes.

Yeah after boot up the cooling fan should kick in. If it does not and it is a laptop it will get too hot in there. Thermal Shutdown protection will kick in, if it is equip. If in 2-3 minutes it got so hot reaching its preset temperature shutdown, it will be down to prevent damage to the system.
