First check the fuse in the mains plug, if that is fine you will have to remove the cover, there are usually about six screws to undo at the back of the microwave then lift the metal cover until it comes off, when you have the metal cover off on the right hand side where all the workings are, have a look for a clear fuse, it should be near the top somwhere, if you cant see it straight away have a route around you will find it. Pop it out and take it to your local appliance or electrical repair shop they should be able to find a new one for you. put the new fuse into the board put the metal casing back on and tighten the screws, plug into the mains and you should get it working. post back if you have any problems.

What type plug do you have? A uk three pin or european?

  • jimnuggats Feb 02, 2010

You will need a flathead or philips screw driver, hold the plug so that the pins are facing you, undo the middle screw, not all the way out, just until the back in your hand comes loose, turn the plug over and the fuse will be on the right as you look at it, pop the fuse out. Get a plug from another appliance like a kettle, do the same with that plug, pop the fuse out and put the other from the miceowave plug into that one, put the plug back together and test the kettle, if the kettle comes on then the fuse is fine,if it dosent then that is your problem. Make sure you replace the original fuse back in the kettle plug.

Sorry about that you must have a fixed plug, with the three pins facing towards you in the centre between the pins there will be little fuse cover, each side there will be a little gap get a table knife and prise it upwards the plastic cover should pop out with the fuse. if u still cant get to the fuse try and send me a picture of the plug so i can try to point to where it is. we will sort this problem. thanks.

Right i think the lead is straight through, without fuse so the fuse in your microwave inself is the best option follow the instructions i gave you in my first post and post back if you have any dificulties. cheers.

If you have changed the fuse in the microwave, and it still does not power up, then i am affraid you will need a new microwave. But before you do that check the fuse in the same rating as the one you took out of the microwave, check to see if there any componants that you think may be blown, your looking for any dark marks on the board or a brownish colour liquid resadue, if there are any it will be those componants and they will need to changed. You could try another expert to see if they have any other suggestions of what it could be, and if there is somthing else you could repair yourself. thanks for the question i will look into further if i find anything else out about it i will post back to you. thanks.

There are three reasons for this, a bad magnetron "common problem" or a high voltage diode and capacitor can be a factor. If the magnetron is at fault it is cheaper to replace the microwave oven.

Whirlpool Microwave GH5184XPB - just off warranty. Buzzer no longer sounds when cooking is done. Can I access the control panel and replace the buzzer?

It's more likely to be a software problem, not hardware.

First, I'd give it a good reset by unplugging it for a minute or so, then plugging it back in, and trying it again.

If that doesn't work, check the settings on the menus. It may be turned off. Consult your owner's manual.

If for some reason you don't have yours, you can download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions here.
