Question about Mitsubishi VS-50605 50" Rear Projection Television

Mitsubishi VS-60703 : Black screen when powered on.

The tv was turned on with a blue screen. I shut it off, unplugged it for 2 min. then tried again to only get a black screen. Green light comes on in the front, can here a click when turned on/off, also can hear a click sometimes by changing input. I also can hear the speakers buzzing when on. TV is 8 years old, is it worth fixing or time to junk it??

Three things are common in the model
1. bad caps
2. fuild from yoke
2. stk convergence ic's

his model is famous for fluid leaks. each projector True True (``````````` (``````````` 0 95250 95250 Mitsubishi VS-60703 : Black screen when powered o - clip_image002.gif tube has a reservoir on the front of it with a fluid in it. this keeps the face of the tube cool.
this depends on how bad the damage is in the tv. in most cases we can reseal the tube and clean up the fluid 400-600.
Once you
take the tube out you will see where it leaked. The problem is that the
frame on the CRT that the heavy screws with springs are mounted on (that
hold the lens coupled to the CRT) is weak and they can bend. We have seen
several that have leaked after the customer moved the set. You can only
tighten them down so much because the frame bends. It is just stamped metal
and not welded at the corners to support the bend.

We remove the CRT, clean it all up, add a very small amount of RTV sealer to
the gasket, reassemble, let the RTV cure thoroughly and refill with coolant.
The extra sealer should prevent future leaks. Haven't had a recall yet.
Mits says replace the CRT...too costly.

You msut check the yokes carefully as well. If any coolant gets into them
you can end up with shorts there and a mess.

and bad caps

I would recommend scrapping this puppy for 2 reasons. 1 is that it is 8 years old and 2nd that it is SDTV and 4x3 not wide screen. Although they do make a nice gaming machine if they can be fixed.
But, Not being HD READY OR Compatible, i would advise aginst repair. By 2/17/2009 analog transmitters are going off and digital will be picking up from then on at this point in the game. Hope this helped u out... guru jay

Vs-60703 turns off after couple of hrs

Two common issues with this set, one is bad solder connections that develop with age and the other is a possible Glycol leak which usually just gets gradually worse.

This set MAY have the self check feature, when it shuts off do not unplug it, press menu and input on the front at same time for at least 5 seconds and release both buttons, if it has the self check the power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 3 blinks and pause and then repeat the code for a total of 5 times.

Let me know if you find an error code what it is, if you unplug the set it clears the error code and you must wait for it to fail again before repeating the test.

Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

Good luck...

No power on

Hey cmdolfan,

Seems like the picture tube on the TV decided to go on you.

But it seems like the power itself is shot.

Try doing a hard rest on the TV (a lot of models have it where you unplug it for 4 hours), and then even try just pluggin it straight into the wall rather then the strip just to make sure.

If this doesn't work, then there really doesn't seem to be a lot more you could possibly do since it isn't getting power what so ever.

I would suggest contacting a local repair service.

TV is lock

Using the Mitsubishi remote, go to the locked function and when it asks for the code pres QV and 9 at the same time on the remote, this will work in any mode which may be locked, including entering a new password!
