Certain hardware or software specifications can prevent your computer from recognizing the full amount of RAM that you have physically installed. What operation system are you running and what kind of processor do you have?

Probably oneof teh sticks are incompatible. Or teh confifurationis imcompatible, or the maximum ram is 128. To check this go to www.belarc.com,
download the system analyser. and it will check and tell you the specifications, status and errors,on your hardware and sorfware.
That will assist you in solving tour problem.

Hi guys, i have installed 2 sdrams pc-133 512mb,together 1gb, but yhe bios and the system shows me only the half memory, whyyyyyyyy

Are you sure that both sticks of RAM are properly "seated"?

How much memory is found when only one stick is used?
How much memory is found when only the other stick is used?

Which motherboard? Some very-old motherboards only support a maximum of 256MB per slot.

How many memory-chips are on each stick of RAM?
If you have purchased "high-density" memory (small number of memory-chips),
and your motherboard only supports "low-density" memory, then only 1/2 or 1/4 of the actual RAM will be used.

I need to know how much ram my motherboard will be able to run without burning up? I have an Emachines t1090 w/ Windows XP, 900MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 128MB SDRAM, CD-ROM 48x Max. CD-Drive, 20GB Hard...

The max for your system is 512MB. You have two memory slots and one has a 128MB chip so if you want 512MB, you need two 256MB chips and throw away the 128MB.
At Newegg, a 256MB chip is $42+ shipping of $1. I'd consider getting a new computer instead.
I don't think memory upgrade will tax your system cooling.

I have a Sony Vaio FX802 with 384 MB ram, split 1 x 256MB and 1 x 128MB across 2 banks. Last week I noticed that I was running on 256MB only so I re-seated the 128MB module and that seemed ok for a time,...

when adding new memory always take all memory out, reinsert the new 256mb stick into the first memory socket dimm1 normally, boot the laptop up, if the laptop boots then fine the memory module is ok, shut down and insert the original 256mb into the second slot, dimm2 then boot the laptop it should now boot normally, if not there maybe problems with the memory slot itself, give it blow to get rid of any dust and try again, if this dosent work post back.

Incorrect value on ram

Hi,

Even if the new memory is 256mb, the motherboard will not read it as such but a max of only 128mb. Alternately, what you need is to get is another 128mb SRAM rated at 100/133 MHz. Sorry to say but yours is a common problem when newer memory are fitted to a relatively not so recent machine.

Good luck and kind regards.
